Drilling another hole in a drawbar

Is it possible to drill another hole in a drawbar? I would like to have the drawbar 6" closer to the rear of the tractor, and will need to drill another hole to mount it to the frame. Can I do this?

Of course it is drill a small pilot hole then keep getting bigger till you have the 1/32 hole larger than your hitch pin.

It works a lot better for me to drill a pilot hole then go right to full size. The big bits seem to cut better if they are cutting full width of their cutting edge. It is VERY important to go slow. I have put holes in at or near the ends with O/A torch.

I prefer a plasma cutter, and an appropriately sized washer, as a template. Doesn't heat as bad as an O-A torch.

Since he is wanting it on opposite end of hitch pin, I would drill it exact size of pin. No point starting out with draw bar slop.

Right! Scribe mark a cross(+) where you want the hole, puncture wound punch a nice dimple and then drill a small pilot hole about 1/4 the diameter of the finished hole you want, then drill the hole to size on a drill press securing the workpiece (the drawbar) so it can't turn if the drill hangs up. Use a good sharp high quality drill (no job for cheap chink junk), go slowly feeding the drill into the workpiece and keep the drill lubed with a good quality cutting oil or speciality metal cutting compound. Go real easy when you feel the drill nearing the bottom of the hole. After drilling hand chamfer the edges of the hole with a hole scraper or the cutting edge of a bigger drill to eliminate any sharp flashing or tangs.
