Well we topped out a 51.4F at 2:30 this afternoon, here in Central NY. It was down in the teens last week and we had about a foot of frost in place. That went out and we now have a ft. of mud.The weather watchers on TV are saying that our high for Wed will be 14F. I went to the woods to cut and clean up the mess that the Thanksgiving weenend ice storm created. The maples were dripping sap like crazy in the old sugar bush. We also have some perenial plants showing signs of spring. Not only is our gov. screwed up, but so is our weather!.

Still waiting for a good freeze. At most we've had an inch or so of frost for one day and that was gone by afternoon. Woods too soft to haul anything.

Been froze up here for the last 3 weeks. It was 40 this morning and rained changed to snow and we have about 6 inches on the ground. The most this year so far. This is in northern lower Mich.

It's headed your way. The cold front came through here (Michigan) just a little while ago. Snow and high winds, temp is dropping like a rock.

loren, it sure makes it a lot easier to get chores done, even despite the mud. i haven't had to thaw any waterers, haven't had to scrape down the spreader, etc. we only closed the north side of the barn last week.
i'm not happy about the effect on plants and trees, but its still better than last (and most) winters.

Hi ACG, ya the weather here has been very strange! I hate all this rain and mud! I like frozen ground and snow much better. Jim still hasent picked his corn, he's waiting for the ground to freeze. Lol

Trees and bushes seem to think it is April 1 here in IL as well. Trees are budding out and so are the lilac bushes. Expect this won't last long as the forecasted high for tomorrow is 24°F and low around 12°F. Been really windy here last night and today. This is the only winter I remember that we haven't already gotten a few snows and cold temps by now. I am not complaining after that storm last Feb that left 24" of snow in 24 hrs!

Ya the weather is getting odd these days but hey I'll blame it on those guys in the white house. But yes things are getting stranger every year and you do know they say 2012 is the year every thing goes up in flames or what ever

Folks, we are a product of 'averages', meaning the news people are always comparing today to the weather averaged over 10 years. Makes sense except the daily weather fluctuates greatly and our brains are now trained to think its the 'worst in X years'. It is very misleading. The daily weather is controlled by 2 things: the angle of the sun on the ENTIRE earth and the jet stream, which mixes ALL of it up in a completely erratic manner.

The whole global warming discussion is based on averages. Nature just does not work that way and never will. I happened to be in Vermont this summer 1 week before the flash floods, and was amazed some of the wood bridges were not built higher. A week later the same low bridges were gone or wrecked. Worst flood in 100 years they said. No kidding.

If you are trying to make money farming, or just don't want your house washed away, you have to be prepared for the extreme events in your area. Never count on the average.
