Are all starter buttons the same?

Needing a new one for my Oliver 77. While pricing them I see the prices running from $5 to $30

I figure it is just a simple switch and the higher prices are just brand name advertising.

Thoughts?

Not sure how your 77 is set up. If your switch operates the starter thru a solenoid about any NO spring return switch will work. it doesn't take much current to operate the solenoid. If it's direct to the starter all the starter current flows thru the switch, which is a lot. You need a good big switch for that, especially on 6 volt.

If it's like my 88 it's a big switch that goes straight to the starter. I'd guess the price difference is in the quality. Both will start the tractor the same, only one will do it longer before it fails. Jim

just match up the contact ratings vs load.

small switches for solenoids and relays.. large for direct starter load..e tc.

If you're talking about the Delco push button starter switch, I think it part number DR405c or something like that, I'm pretty sure they all come from the same place. I have them from Tisco and A&I, I've seen the switches from Car Quest, and I've seen the switches from a Case-IH dealer as well as from a John Deere dealer, and they all look exactly the same.

I would suspect though that for just $5 it would probably be a used switch rather than new.
