OT Rain in Texas

I am in Houston this week for Christmas. There was water standing most of the way south from KC. It looks like they finally got a nice little rain down here.

Still 20 inches below average in East Texas, but very happy to get what we got. It almost covered my garden I planted in my pond :-(.

Here in N.E. TX. we have had a lot of "showers" and they have done a nice job of getting fall wheat and fall pastures moving right along. Cracks, like 8" across are finally filling in (Houston Black Clay).

What we need now is a gullywasher to fill up the watershed....pool/pond/tanks....we call them pools here, are about 4 feet low. About 10" in about 3 hours would do nicely. Had that last winter and that is all that saved my pool this last summer with our 3 months of 100+ weather...but it didn't save my bragging sized cats and bass.....perch did ok.....buzzards didn't survive either. The toxin that killed my fish took them out too....after they enjoyed their meal.

David, This little jag of rain we got here at the house, (the weekend, & week before, and weekend of Christmas got 1.5 ins here in far N.W. Williamson County). The top 10 ins of soil is wet still need a lot more rain to get the water tables right and Area Lakes in a more near normal levels.
The Upper Tx Panhandle got the Snow and Rain a few days prior to Christmas. At my MiLs & FiLs home at Stratford TX 6 to 8 in on the level, Drifts 1 to 2 feet in places.
We drove home Christmas Day left at 5:30 am, Clear skys,15* degrees, Headed South...Got to Amarillo and What do you Know.... Snowed hard on us all the way to Lubbock shifted into 4X4, and drove 40 to 50 all the way. Ran out of the Snow storm on the South side of Lubbock. Was wet on us All the way to Sweetwater and dry roads the rest of the way home, after the rains fell, was nice to get it non-the-less! Very nice Christmas gift!!!
Later,

We have had 19 inches since October first, just north of Houston, but we are still 24 inches behind. There has been almost no run-off and the lakes, reservoirs and stock ponds (tanks) are still very low.
