about a month ago I posted an inquiry about farm equipment junkyards in S Texas. You responded with one between Sebastian and Raymondville.

I got up there last week and found a place on the west side of 77 about 1 mile SOUTH of Sebastian. He has several old Fords, a few Cubs, etc - mostly small tractors. I asked him if there were any yards further north, and he said no.

Was this the place you had in mind - or did I not go far enough north?

Actually someone else mentioned that place, I told you about the one on 83 just west of Bass Blvd. in Harlingen.
BUT I too have been to that one in Sebastian, but he's not so much a junk yard but more a reseller of old tractors and some implements as you discovered.
His answer to you was correct, that is unless you go all the way to near Corpus. I recall seeing another dealer near Robstown which is just south of Corpus, but it's similar to the one you mentioned in Sebastian.
Only place I know of around here that may have what you were looking for would be the one in Harlingen.

When I told the guy at Bass Blvd what I wanted he smiled and said "Good Luck". He doesn';t have anything older than the JD4020 line, so no 540 PTO stuff.

He said most of the old equipment went across the river.

Thx for helping

Sadly he's probably right about it going into Mexico. Probably have luck in North or East Texas, but that's not exactly a day trip from here as you know....although I did drive to Waco and back in one day.......once. 800+ miles in a day was more tiring than I expected! Sometimes I forget how big our wonderful state is.
Weather is improving BTW, back up to 80 in about 5 days and lots of that glorious sunshine and blue sky this coming week......yaaaayyyy!

What tractor are you needing parts for??? There are quite a few yard across the USA. In South West you are going to not find very many yards. There just where not as many tractors there. Much better luck in the Mid-West or North east.

try this place i have got lots of parts from T. lang over the years

I'm the one that suggested that place.
I only looked over from the highway and never stopped in to see what he has.
There is one more place in Brownsville.
It's in town on the highway south of Morrison Road on the east side.
Pena's I think the name.
Hardly any old iron around here.
Everything ended up in Mexico over the years.

Oh yea, I forgot about Eli Pena. Seems like he just has mostly tractors though too, doesn't he. I know he puts some on Craigslist now and then. I think most of his stuff comes from the North Texas area, he hauls it back down here in hopes of making a buck or three!

I'm mounting a JD model 50 mower (sickle bar, center mount) on a tractor with only a 540 rear PTO. So, I need to get a power shaft from the PTO to the mower head.
My "ideal" would be the drive train from the Detroit Harvester mower of the 1950's which had a double sheave PTO pulley, belt drive to an under axle bearing box, with a telescoping shaft running forward to the mower.

If I have to do it a piece at a time, I'll need:
1. PTO pulley
2. bearing box
3. telescoping driveshaft with U-joints

Really long range plan is to put a live hydraulic pump on the engine crankshaft, and a hydraulic motor on the mower - that would give me "live PTO" and independent control of cutterbar sickle speed. But getting the mower working mechanically will be a big enough first step.

Comments are welcome
