we recently purchashed a IH 715 gas combine for our small farming operation. i have been looking into a 844 head for it. what the difference in the 844 & the 944? are these heads only avaible in wide rows? any info. would be helpfull thanks

844 means series 800, four row, 38-40 inch rows; a 843 would be the same, but 30 inch rows. 863 would be six rows, 30 inch rows, got it? The 900 and 1000 series would be newer.

As stated the 900 is newer and most all parts will interchange.

But the 900 used more aluminum parts and is lighter. The cast iron parts will interchange with the aluminum.

I have had 844,944 and 1044 heads all the same except the age.

Condition is what you need to look at when deciding which to get.

The 944 and 1044 would be lighter for you 715.

Go with the 900 or 1000 series preferebly. Most of the 900's that had the soft snap roll shafts that gave them a bad rap have been replaced with steel shafts that don't cause problems and the drives are more reliable on the newer series heads as well.
