Looking for ideas on where to find used tractors for sale

I'm trying to buy a used farm tractor before Jan 1st (gotta write something off haha) and I am having no luck finding anything good. I guess I'm pretty picky...

I'm trying to find a 2wd 120-150hp Ford or New Holland tractor, from the 1990's or 2000's. Maybe something mid-80's if it's low hours and clean. (good luck with that!)

I've checked on these classifieds, with no luck. I've checked tractor house, and fast line. I'm running out of ideas of where to look. It seems every tractor I look at has 6000+ hours on it, and they still want over $50,000 for it. Call me crazy, but I consider 6000+ to not be a "used" tractor. I consider it a "used up" tractor. I know there are lots out there that will go to 10,000 hours, but, when you get up near $60,000 for a tractor with that many hours, it's just $15,000 more for something brand new off the lot.

I guess there aren't a lot of 2wd tractors out there. I really don't like the 4wd ones. They have their strong points, but, it's more than I need, and I priced out front tires in popular sizes and it looks like I'd have to remortgage the farm to replace worn ones. call me crazy, I just don't see the benefit. If it's wet enough to need 4wd, chances are, it's too wet to be out in the field in the first place. I'm rambling... regardless...

Does anyone have a hot spot to check for used tractors? Thanks

It seems that around here, the only farms with mainly ford tractors are dairy farms.....and well......you wont likely find a low hour clean tractor on a dairy farm......just dont see it much!

Good point! Someone needs to tell the cows they have to take mandatory weekends off, and holidays. Give the tractors some time to rest!

Take out a subscription to Lancaster Farming they cover most of PA and have lots of tractors for sale by dealers and individuals plus alot of great reading and a thick paper thats good to get tthe wood stove going. Also try Auction Zip.com for a list of auctions.Of course everyone is looking for a cheap low hr tractor(LOL)

Good luck! Used equipment prices are through the roof lately. Tractors from the 80's & 90's with low hours and in good shape are being sold for more than their original buying price for many of the JD models. Machinery Pete has had many articles over the past few months documenting these high prices. These weren't #1 built of last built machines either. Just clean, well kept, low hour machines.

No, and that's part of the fun of collecting tractors. You never know where the next one is going to come from.

Tractor house and Fast line are way overpriced IMHO, but you have to expect that from dealers. They'll sit on a tractor for years, waiting for someone to come along that's foolish enough or desperate enough to pay their ridiculous prices.

There have to be other local or regional farm publications available in your area.

I don't think anything excists like you want.
most tractor owners will keep anything that is low houred. It's either buy new or high houred.

if performing heavy draft or loader work with 2wd then try 4wd. you will drop thé 2wd idea in a hurry. try pricing new at a dealer, maybe some year end promotions?

It's a bad time to buy a tractor and expect real value for the money you are paying. I don't know if your schedule allows you to get to very many auctions but I would see what comes in the next couple weeks. As others have said dealers and online listings are through the roof anymore. Maybe the name of the game is to consider buying another color you know has value for the price paid. You can always convert it to something that suits your preference later (trade). At least you will have dealt with the tax issue.

John Deere Machine Finder usually has a bunch of Ford, Ford-New Holland and New Holland row-crop 100+HP tracors listed. Some at what look to be good prices??? Service Motor Company in Wis has a line up of 100+ HP tractors. 6 locations. I saw a Ford 8730 MFWD w/duals 3805 hrs, looked good in pic for $29,900. WisFarmer.com-classified. Lots of tractors there.

It's amazing to me how the engine on my Case unloads when I shift into 4WD if it's pulling hard. Hate to be without it.

Look up LANCASTER FARMING and get a subscription. Big farm paper with lots of ads, both dealers and private.

Try researching manufactures web sites. In 2005 I bought a 2003 MF 6290 4X4 850 hours for 50000 with one year warranty. delivered to me. The tractor was in south carolina and Agco owed rental return. I purchased it from a dealer in Wyo.

You'd never regret getting 4wd. Run a tractor without it, then drive one with it. You could never go back, that extra traction available whenever you need it. I wouldn't worry about the tires. On a tractor that size you would change them every 1500-2000 hours with some roading included. Below is a link to a low hour Case IH 125 listed for $60000. There should be stuff available out there.
AGDealer low hour Case IH 125

John,
Try Stiztel farm equipment in Hamburg,PA ,Wengers in Meyerstown,PA,and also try wwww.external_link.

Messicks in Elizabethtown Pa has a M125X 4wd Kubota with a cab, with 565 hours for $47,000

You're on the computer. Go to "auctionzip", punch in a radius, your zip code and "agricultral". It will pull up a calendar with a bunch of auctions in your area. I have started to believe you can get a better deal at most auctions than thru a dealer.

The last northeast ed.Tractorhouse has some low hour NHs those prices don't look bad.NH8560,2wd.at Wooster,Oh.for one.

tractor house and fast line two great websites to search for used ones. Fastline should have a monthly publication you can subscribe to. It is made up of all your area used equipment dealers.

Thanks to all! I finally found one!

2000 New Holland 8670 2wd. very nice tractor with 3400 hours on it. $41,000 including shipping from KY. Stopped downt there to pay for it. I was hoping to visit nearby Rosine, KY but it was a few minutes too late. That would have been a highlight of my life! I hope to get to go back down there to check it out. I love Bluegrass.

Tractor will be on the farm before Jan 1. I am really feeling good today despit driving 1096 miles yesterday! LOL
