Does anyone have a 2012 silverado 1500 4wd with a 5.3 engine? Just looking for pros and cons. what do you pull with it?
Thanks, Brian(MN)

I don't know how you have been following GM over the years, but I abandon them a long time ago for the reasons that made them the same old "stuff" year after year and lots of other things.

Last spring I wanted a new truck and decided to be brand independent and look to my nearest dealer. Happens the closest sold Chev. My plan was to make an expanding loop checking dealers/brands till I found what I wanted.

I didn't get past him. I bought the 1500 Crew cab with the little 4.8 or 4.9 (can't remember), basic pushrod V8, no fancy valve timing and all with the electronic 4 speed transmission which has the tow haul shift point modifier button.

The Feds really did a number for the consumer when they straightened out GM. I love this truck and since April cannot find one thing that I dislike about it.

It's not 4wd but I pull a tandem stock trailer, or a tandem utility trailer, or a 17' boat like they aren't there. For the way I drive, country living, but I do things around the farm that don't contribute to fuel economy, i get 16 to 18. I only drop about 2 mpg pulling my trailers at highway speeds with the tow haul function activated.

The brand has picked up around here lately as I assume people have tried them and like them....weren't many for quite a few years. The 4wd trucks that I see working are usually 3/4 to 1 ton and they pull everything in these rolling hills and see a lot of diesel tail pipes.

Oh, and the ride is still GM's Fisher Body and the seats are standard buckets that fit a big man. One reason I bought the small engine was to get the soft ride, but it certainly doesn't run like it's small.

Best I can do. Not on subject per se, but close. I'd assume the '12 would be pretty close to the '11.

Wait a few months. GM is bringing out the 2013 with a direct injection V8 gasser.
Near diesel efficiency without the weight, option cost, increased maintenance or having to use more expensive fuel.

Brian I know this is not a report on a 2012, but we here at the dealership do our best to trade for or buy outright Chevy trucks with the 5.3 engine. We have sold a lot of them and they are the most dependable truck we sell, Sorry toyota. They consistantly get over 20 MPG without springing for the ford package that trys to do the same thing. We will continue to sell them.

So, my man what is the difference between that and my Multi-point fuel injection that injects the fuel right at the intake valve? Let me guess, they squirt it directly into the combustion chamber and the piston crown is not flat, or beveled for hemispherical combustion chambers, but convoluted so that you have a cup for the explosion to occur. I assume that the fuel flow is still cross flow, in the intake valve, across the piston, and out the exhaust 180 degrees away.

Ok fine.

I have had my truck since April and no problems with anything....just love it, and I AIN'T A CHEVY LOVER....QUITE THE CONTRARY. I went back to the dealer once.......just to tell him how much I liked the truck....blew him away.
