electricity robbers....

Just read the meter and got our annual use statement.... Oil heat, electric cooking. Washmachine and dishwasher heat their own water as needed. We use an electric un demand water heater that runs sinks, tub and shower. Last year's use was a little over 5000 KW. Was so hot and dry this summer that the wife never used the clothes dryer more than a few minutes, switched laundry soap and use cooler water. Wife's company built a gym, sauna, and showers for the workers so she showered at most twice a week at home. We have a water hose real with about 150 ft of hose on it that sets in the sun in summer so I put a hose quick connect on a shower hose/faucet and showered the whole summer outside, and switched all lights in the house to CF and LED. This years use was just over 2000 KW. Think I'm gonna ditch the on demand heater (use it for a utility sink maybe) and start looking for a solar setup on ebay to supplement the oil heater for hot water.

And, provider sent a note in this statement that they were increasing our rates... Coincidence my a$$...... We are changing providers also.....

works the same world over. Here we went to CDs and LEDS to cut eletcric bills. EPA has closed all the plants in this area so the Electric Companys don't get the big bucks from them so now they have put in for a big increase saying that they have make the differance by adding to you bill. is a bunch of C^^ap if you ask me. If we use less bill should be less.

Funny thing, I've done about all I can to cut electricity usage, somehow the usage is about the same as the same time period last year, and the bill just keeps going up. CFL bulbs, phooey!

although i have never met you dave, have seen your pic on here a couple times
if you have neighbors, must be a real treat for them when you shower " outside "
LOL just kidding bro, got a body myself that only a mother ( or a wife that likes the paycheque ) could love

Our places are painfully close together (gutter on the neighbors barn leaks and a stall in my barn is wet...).... You can't see in unless yoy climb up the wall... I made me a little (big) curtain so I's not a flasher...

Max, everytime the government does anything, your bill will go up. If they increase tax, obviously your bill will go up, yet, when they cut taxes, your bill will also go up. If they pass a new law, your bill will go up, ironically however, if they repeal the same law, your bill will go up again. Our government is dedicated to providing your money freedom from your wallet. I'm sure that you have heard about the seperation between church and state, though I am telling you government is far more interested and commited to the seperation of Americans and their money.

Dave,
You use 5000 hw. Do you mean 5000KW-hr for a year? If we have really cold winter, I could use almost that much in a month with a total electric home. My highest electric bill has yet to exceed $300.

Lighting takes very little electricity. Anything with a motor, like a AC system or a furnace blower, sucks up a lot more power. Hook up your welder and see the wheels on the meter spin!

The numbers are in the numbers. I have moved into neons including using 65w neons in place of 175w Mercury Vapor. With 4 lights on the place it adds up.

I also took a look around the place and found that I had a couple of rooms in the house that I didn't really use so why temp control them. I did a little rearranging and my current light bills are about 20% less than a year ago (summer and winter) including the increase of from $10 per meter to $15 (have 3).

Is your electricity billed on various rates
depending on the time of day?
If so a tank water heater can he used to heat
water during off peak. Then shut off via a timer
during peak electrical price periods. And just coast
on 30,40 or 60 gallons of hot water in the insulated
tank.
