Put a new van guard moter in my little JD skidder. Instead of moving the remote switch to the operators seat area, I wired it to the original JD switch. When I tried starting it, it would not start. Got gas? check. Got spark at the plug? very week, almost non exsitant. Called both Briggs dealers in Mankato and both had the same answer. Must have put 12 volts to the coils and burned them out. Traced wires from switch and sure enough. Can't expect warranty to cover my mistake so bite the bullet and order new coils. $45.00 each plus shipping. Education costs money weather you get it in trade school or the school of hard knocks. bummer.

That's the same reasoning I use whenever I make an error that cost's money. It was still cheaper than hiring it done and now we are all smarter too.

Could have been worse. Now if you do it again there may be a problem. Not as bad as the guy at work one time. we ordered a special replacement hi speed air bearing motor. The instructions said don't turn uness air is attached. This guy didn't believe the instructions and turned the motor, and it locked up, right in his hand. Hard to believe this little motor was worth many thousands of dollars. Things do happen. Stan

Yep if it can be screwed up I think I have done it it seems like. Kinda like rolling out the extension cord and getting all set up on top of the ladder and realizing you forgot to plug it in! And we can't wait to tell people when we screw up either is the funny part.

Know the feeling. I bought a power steering pump for a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Pulled the old one off. Pressed the pulley off it and on to the new pump. Picked up the instructions and they said to use the tool that came with the new pump to remove and install the pulley or you might ruin the pump. Got to looking st my new pump and the back was knocked out of it. Took the new pulley back to AZ and asked them if it was still good enough for a core charge (65.00). Bought another pump (still no tool in box) made me a tool ( sure as he?? was not going to do the press thing again). Live and learn.

If you've never made a mistake, you have never done much. Occasionally I think of the time when I replaced the short block on a chain saw. Everything went real smooth and as I was finishing up and feeling real good about the time involved, I looked down on the work bench and there lay the reed valve! Never did that but once though.
