Working on a Farmall M and need to know the recommended rear end fluid and the amount of quartes needed. Also, some leakage att eh axel gaskets. Any quick fis like a sealer additived tot eh rear lube?

the rear differential takes about 14 gallons of 90 wt, or 80-90, what ever is on sale. no magic potions to stop the leaks. the end axle seals have a grease zerk, you can try a couple pumps in there. otherwise, you will need new seals. if its the gaskets where the axle trumpet meets the main chassis, it is possible to change them without pulling the axles. the top of the new gasket gets cut, tractor needs to be cribbed up and supported, and the trumpet housing slid away about 3/8 of an inch. takes time to clean out all the old gasket.

Sometimes original manuals call for ridiculously light 20 weight oil, and I don't know why. 80 and 90 weight gear oil had to have been around, but I would use 80-90. I admit that I don't have the manual for the M, but frequently I see 20 weight oil being the recurring oil of the old tractor.
