What is some of the best call or puts (being bluffed) you have seen or been in on? Maybe someone called back on a tractor and wanted more money? You backed out and got it for 1/2 price!!!

Okay, Im NOT admitting to anything lol that being said:

I knew this "dude" who has a truck for sale,,,,,,another dude is there looking at it considering to buy it or not,,,,,,,,,the dudes wife (real or coached or rehearsed????) comes out and says SOME GUYS ON THE PHONE WANTS TO KNOW IF THE TRUCKS STILL FOR SALE

The buyer dude gets nervous and says I WILL TAKE IT

Ya know when that happened the buyer dude has to make an immediate choice, either buy it or get the H____ outa there lol it (other dudes phone call????) gets rid of him one way or the other. Kinda like the old saying he has to S _ _ T or get off the pot lol

So (true story) yesterday I advertised an old truck I have for sale on Craigs List, get an e mail asking for more pictures and if my price is the least I will take blah blah blah then another e mail crying about how it needs rocker panels (its a freakin 25 year old chevy PU what you expect) and wants more e mail of pics of floorboards and under hood YEAH RIGHT DIPSTICK

I also ran an add in todays local Sunday paper and phone rings at 7 AM today Sunday (Sheesh), guy comes over half dark and in rain and takes it for full asking price cash

I guess if I were Politically Correct I should feel sorry for the first DIPSTICK and feel guilty for not holding it until he came out YEAH RIGHT

ANOTHER TRUE STORY I once saw an add in our paper something like " Old pickup for sale, will take $350 or $400" HMMMMMMMM wonder if some dude paid him the 4400

I have lots more as a tractor and farm implement dealer for years but nuff said

There was an old man who ran a junkyard and gravel business in our town for years. I had always heard that he would do just about anything to make a sale to the first customer of the day as that was his good luck. I stopped there early one morning about 30 odd years ago looking for an oldsmobile transmission, which he had, he quoted me a reasonable price and I told him I would go get the money and come back, he chased me through the yard going down on the price, I kept telling him I didn"t have that much money on me but would be back with the cash, he finally got down around 50 or 60 bucks which I did have in my pocket and he sold it to me for that price. He taught me a lesson about dealing that day even though it wasn"t the one he intended.

Something I've been seeing lately is the price or better offer....not best offer. I thought it was just a fluke, so I called on one just to see. Ad said $100 (fair price for the item) so I called and told the seller I would take it and asked where it was so I could come right now. He said he had an offer of $125. I said good luck. Odd to say the least.

Cousin always told the story that when he was in his younger years, he went to look at a car that was advertised in the paper. When he got there the owner wasn't there, but another fellow was there looking also. They looked the car over while visiting, and the other fellow asked my cousin if it would be worth $50.00 to him to just leave and not be there when the owner got home. Cousin took the $50.00 and was gone.

That first sale of the day was common with older Jewish merchants - they wouldn't spend any money until they made a sale that day.

A young woman I worked with a few years ago was getting married. Her mother offered to buy them a bedroom suite as their wedding present.

The first furniture store she went to had a set she really liked, but at $5000 it was just too expensive. Next store she went to had the exact same set, but price was only $2700. I would've bought the set and been happy, but this girl had a bit of an attitude.

She went back to the first store and gave them an earful about their outrageous price, ended up getting it from the first place for $1800.

My buddy was selling a Cadillac in NC and put it in the paper. When he got home he had two women in a full on dustcloud in his driveway. Not sure who he sold the car to, but it did sell that afternoon. $200 for a 10 year old caddy will do that.

I saw a set of truck tires in the bulletin and went to look at them. I brought $300 and a car. I told the guy on the phone that I wanted to look but I wasn't in a buying situation. He said to come anyway. I got there and looked the tires over. I said I liked them but I had only brought 300 and really didn't intend to make the purchase that day as evident by the sedan I drove. He said 300 was okay and I loaded 4 255/70/18s in an Oldsmobile.

Well guy here are a few of mine and favorits. I got into a fight with a parts counter guy many years ago and told him i would call the owner He handed me the phone and number!!! 2. There was some theft years ago they knew who was doing it but could not catch him sherrif went to house with video tape in hand (they were new back then) told the guy we got you on tape at such and such the wall came down and the guy admited to everything (the tape was blank!!!) I went to look at a fertilizer hopper just got there and a truck comes blazing off a dirt road and the guy said (hey big charlie you got the hopper for sale? yes well 1200 is a good price yada yada. By this time i was on my way to car and leaving That dang thing was advertized for the next 6 months!!!

Went to a dealer auction one time to buy a combine. Looked at the combine the day before and the salesman told me they were going to sell the combine no matter what it brought. I was the only bidder onthe combine other than the guy who "bought" it. Came home thinking I got outbid on it. About a month later the implement dealer calls me wanting to know if I was still interested in this combine. I told him no, that I had already bought it once, since I was the only "real" bidder. He told me that they couldn't let it go that cheap. I told him that another salesman told me it WOULD sell for sure. Guess I didn't fall for their bluff, and they were still stuck with their combine for a while longer.

Drunk aquaintence standiing next to me told to shut up and step back, he was covered by pistol held by guy sitting on ground. He looked at gunner, said p*ssy won"t shoot and stepped forward. DOA at hospital with single low powered fmj .38 bullet in heart. That riding season got a little interesting. RN

Had a young guy come look at set of cultivators I had for sale. He thought they were good and said he would take them for $200. I said the price is $400 but I would consider a decent offer. $200 was his top dollar. He said he could get a set in Wis. for $250 so he wasn't going to give me $400. I am in SD so go figure what his run to Wis. was worth. Then he calls my son who gave him my number on the cultivators to start with and asked if he could come look at his JD collection. Wasn't looking for anything in particular, just wanted to look. Didn't go over to well with my son. He runs his own body shop and it bugs the heck out of him when guys show up just to shoot the breeze.

A few years ago I was looking at a set of used tires for my truck. Told seller that he was a little high on his price. He said that some one was coming later to buy them if I didn't. Said bye and left. He had the tires setting in his yard yet 4 weeks later, stopped and offered him half of the original asking price and he took it

Sure not a big dollar deal, but kinda fun for a 16 year old kid. Went to the sale to get a calf for my little sister- didn't see anything I liked, and headed for the truck. Walked by the back of a pickup with a real cute whiteface heifer calf in the back, waiting to unload. Offered the guy 12 bucks, he laughed and said he'd run it through the sale. Went back in, bought it for 9- seller probably ended up with about $6 after commission.

Win a few, lose a few.

A few years ago, I was loooking at a truck for sale. The ad had several good pics, good miles, and price. So I called, told the owner I wanted the truck and we agreed I would bring ca$h the next day. I get to the guys house and he tells me another guy just called, offered $100 more for the truck. I said a few cuss words and left. He called me back in a few days, telling me the other dude couldn't get financing. I told him flat out no on the truck and a little lesson on cash in hand is worth more than two in the bush.

I like to deal with people the same way I hope to be treated. One of my biggest pet peves is when people will try and lowball the price over the phone, they never bother to see it in person first.

Similar thing here, last year. Guy advertised an AC CA for $1500, kinda rough, especially noisy. Agreed I"d be there the next day at noon, two hours away. Showed up at 12:30 due to poor directions. He said he lived there for 25 years, couldn"t give good directions, so I got them from his wife. Tried to follow them the next day, did find his place a half hour late. He said he got an offer from someone else for 100 bucks more. I said I"m paying the advertised price, made out the check and got the trailer. When he questioned my amount on the check, I said I"m leaving, I don"t deal with people like that. He did take the check and I got the tractor, but I would have left. Interesting that it would take only three simple directions to get from town to his farm, all well-marked. Some people are just ditzy. I remember how he danced around the yard, waving the check in the air, showing his wife! Nut case- tried to scam me for 100 bucks- even if he had a real offer, a real man wouldn"t take it, when the buyer pays the advertised price.

Reminds me of an ad for a Cadillac in the MPLS Tribune decades ago. Extremely cheap- like 5-10% or less of what it was worth. After it was sold, the story came out that a guy had died, and his will stated that all proceeds from the car go to his "lady friend"- ie, turned out to be his mistress. His wife was not happy, but complied with the will....

Sold a bobcat skidloader a few years ago. Had it for sale two weeks, not a nibble. I thought it was worth $3500.00 so I put the add in for $4000.00 knowing people like to haggle. A guy came to look at it driving a new lincon. wanted it for $3500.00 in the worst way. I said," I tell you what, I just started listing it for sale, you come back in three weeks, and if it is still here, I'll sell it to you for $3500.00". He wrote me out a check for $4000.00 on the spot.
