Roof Vent Pipe

I posted earlier about problems with Silicone Caulk on the roof of my barn/shop.
While on the roof, I notoced something I have never seen. The 3 inch PVC pipe that extends out roof, is inside an all metal roof flange. I understand the purpose but don't think it was installed properly. It appears that the waterproofing between the PVC pipe and the Metal Flange is accomplished by bending the top edge of the metal pipe down inside the PVC pipe.
It appears to have been POUNDED in place, with the PVC pipe being app 2" below top surface of metal flange!
The metal appears to be soft and I assume it is a Lead alloy??????
Other then the small leak, I believe the 3" PVC is essentually a 2" because of the sloppy installation of the wrinkeled up metal.
Is this something I should be concerned about--I am having NO Vent problems?

Sounds good to me. If the flange is inside the pipe
it sure ain't gonna leak. I've seen "professional"
roofing jobs and they ALWAYS leak

that is the proper way to install that flashing
workmanship could be better from the sounds of it
as long as the pipe dosn"t freeze shut in the winter everything is ok

Don't touch it. It is lead and the best possible vent flashing money can buy. In Cape Coral Florida...it's code. The sun down will eat up the rubber collar in a heart beat. Don't fool with it until you need a new roof.

Doesn't a plumbing vent have to protrude through the roof by 3' or something like that? I am not a plumber but I have wired a few Holiday Inn's (electrician by trade). LOL...........

Is it an old roof?? Thats a better system than the modern boots (modern ones crack after about 5 years. They used thin lead and formed it around the vent pipe. If it doesn"t leak, leave it alone.

Sorry, re-read your post & saw that it leaks. Pull it & put on a new boot is the best fix, not really that hard. Might have to cut the PVC off in the attic space & splice on an extension to get it up above the roof line enough (12" is more than enough).
