Doctor visit/treatment for a heel spur.....

Been nursing one since last week in September and have my whole leg screwed up from favoring it. Went to the doctor today... Told him what I thought, he squeezed around to make sure I wasn't lieing, took an xray to verify (a blind man could see it).... And asked if I wanted it fixed or wanted treatment that insurance will pay for. Said I wanted it gone (my insurance will pay anyway). Treatment is like an air hammer that he ran all over the heel concentrating on where it hurt the most for about 16 hours (5 minutes or so)..... Kinda like beating your head against the wall.... Hurts like heck but feels darn good when you stop...... Said that the heel spur was an infected area and the hammering would cause blood flow which would flush the infection away. Prescribed antibiotics to take twice a day for 10 days to get rid of the infection done imprints of my feet for ordering insoles, and said I need two more hammerings a week apart and will have no more problems.... Feels better already.... Wife had a real bad case of tennis elbow that is completely gone after 3 of the same treatments.

That must be a new treatment. I had mine operated on (both heels) in "95 and I was on crutches for month and then I could only shuffle around for another two weeks. In three months I was fine and we were backpacking again. Sure was painful after the surgery though.

I've been figthing them for 20 years- first 15 when they bothered me they pumped my feet full of cortisone, make it better for a while and did the insoles. Last time they gave me anti inflamatory pills, helped but the injections were more effective.

Had them in both heels about 1997. I first noticed it after jumping off a gravity wagon in my barn. Got steadily worse until I finally got some holow hel pads. About three weeks it was better, six weeks gone, and keep those heel inserts in all my work shoes and boots. No more problems. Knock on wood, they hurt like he11.

Had problems for 20 years. Done the shots.shoe
inserts, surgery (Topaz) last January. Still have
problems with my feet both top side and bottom side.
I am on my 4th or 5th doctor.

Think it's called shockwave therapy in english... Supposed to work on the scar tissue that has formed from covering the symtoms for so long to increase blood flowwhich regenerates the tissue and gets rid of the problem which eliminates the symptoms..... we'll see. German insurance would cover 100% of shots, surgery, inserts, etc to work the symptoms but the shock wave therapy is out of pocket. 45 bucks each. Wife went from barely able to move her arm to painless and full use in three sessions (3 weeks).... No telling what it will cost in the States.

I had spurs about 20 years ago. Another guy in shop reccomended Wolverin boots with Dura Shock soles. He said they helped him and many others. Within 2 months I had so little discomfort I hardly noticed. All was well until 2008 when I developed calcification around both Acelis tendons that ended standing and walking long periods. I have since heard others sing praises of the Dura Shock soles.

Dave, I could be saying things like"you have spurs that jingle jangle jingle as your money goes rideing right along." I wouldn't dare tell you that.I can bet they are painful. No Joke !! Any way speedy recovery so you can tend the horses. warmest regards LOU

(quoted from post at 08:32:25 12/02/11) Here in the States, it would cost you an arm (hers) and a leg (yours). LOL!

Unbelieveable....... just googled some prices....... 4-5 thousand bucks....
Guess being sick in the States is a luxury I won't be able to afford........

Had terrible pain in the bottom of both feet when I was working on airplanes on the hardstand flightline in Air Force in Florida. I was 20 an never had had any foot trouble before...passed induction physical just fine. I thought it was probably those oversized GI brogan work shoes I'd been issued. Tried soft insoles and two pairs of socks...didn't really help much. Finally went to flight surgeon and he said to get arch suppports..actually he finally got 'em for me. I've got fallen longitudinal and plantar arches in my feet and they caused ingrown wart-like callous things, sort of like "spurs" on heels I guess. Anyway, I've never had much problems since wearing arch supports.
