Awhile ago had to pull softner and pressure tank to repair floor.Since reinstalling said items, pressure seem to be alot lower.Pump was activating at 40psi,off at 60psi.Cant remember what they were set at before floor repairs.Readjusted pressure switch to 0n at 50psi,off at 70psi.Its better it just dont seem to be like it was. There is 62psi in bladder.Could I have plugged something up in softner or pressure tank moving them around.Pressure is holding well at gauge when nothing is open.

Thanks

Stan

I am no expert on this, but I think the pressure in your bladder is way too high. I have been told by my plumber that 15-20# is correct. I guess this could possibly vary by the kind and size of your tank though. Again, no expert, just what I have been told.

Well, if there is a restriction you would see high pressure everywhere in the closed system, however on the faucet side of the line see a immediate, major drop in pressure soon as you open the faucet. Make sense?

The pressure will equalize (some drop over distance) in a few minutes when the faucet is closed, however when you open it, the pressue will be released on that end, but not beable to keep up due to the restriction. (if you have one)

Suggest you place gauge near the faucet somewhere if you can (any faucet, garden hose etc) and see if you lose lots of pressure soon as you open the line.

Pressure in the bladder should be 2 pounds less that the "ON" setting of the switch. Just went through it a few months ago.
Only thing that having less will cause though is the pump will start and stop a lot.

If the bladder pressure is too high theres less room/capacity left to provide the physical room and availabe further expansion, since if way too high you see how theres like no effective bladder at all...If it were say 80 PSI with only 50 PSI pressing against it, I dont see much bladder working action HEY IM NOT A PLUMBER SO TAKE THIS FOR WHAT ITS WORTH,,,, NOTHING

Id try lowering the bladder pressure, mines more like 35 PSI and it works great.

I ended up having the well man out and had a whole new pump put in. 5 inch well, submersable pump, they set my pressure switch at 35/55. I'd be afraid of blowing the ends off some of the copper tubing with those rubber ferrels under the sink with anymore pressure than that.

Your pressure is probably ok. what I think it is, is that by moveing everything around you have loosen up some dirt and rust, and it is pluging up a filter or screens somewhere, if you have a whole house filter change that 1st. I belive it is a flow problem not pressure. you can also rig up a pressure gauge to put on the garden hose fitting to tell you what pressure you have

try bypassing your softener and trying pressure.if it increases youve found your problem. FYI water softener will nearly allways drop water pressure some. how much will depend on how many fittings are used and their location. some of them can really get restrictive. another possibility is if you had a gate valve installed before w/s it may have twisted off and be only partialy open.

rrlund is right on, and that is the only way it should be! I have heard the best thing to do with a old softener is to roll it around on the floor, mix up the amberlight, expose some new surfaces, then regenerate it. You should have a whole house filter ahead of the softener. You must have a plugged filter, strainer or a kinked line.
