OT: Picture frame?

Yesterday a piece of picture frame molding showed up in my garage unannounced, courtesy of my DD I think.

It's 98" by 3 1/2".

For you math majors and wood butchers, what is the largest standard size picture frame I can make out of it, allowing for the miter cuts and the saw kerfs?

Help me before I make kindling out of it. That's one thing I'm good at.

subtract 3.5" for every cut. 8 cuts = 28" minus a bit for saw kerfs. make it 30 inches. 98 minus 30 = 68 divide by 4 = 17" so it can be 17" square, or inches longer shorter to your desire. subtract from sides and add to length as needed. Jim

Assuming the molding is flat making 4 parts you can get a total of 97" of parts out of a 98" piece of molding. If the molding has a 3/8" rabbet you can make a frame for a 16x20 canvas with about 2" left over.
