We so often forget that wars are almost always waged to achieve a political outcome, and that one fought for no clear political goal is a waste.

Yep. A big mistake undoing the wall put around this barbaric gang 500 years ago. The 'trade' and 'expanding empire' is certainly coming back to haunt all of us.
