Nothing changed.

Bendee,

Very interesting read.

I was particularly impressed with this statement by Churchill, "We are told that the British and Egyptian armies entered Omdurman to free the people from the Khalifa's yoke. Never were rescuers more unwelcome.[14]"

Sound familiar?

Zero won't read Churchill and sent his bust, that was a gift, from Thatcher, I believe, back to Britain, banished from the Whitehouse...

"..there are many people in England, and perhaps elsewhere, who seem to be unable to contemplate military operations for clear political objects, unless they can cajole themselves into the belief that their enemy are utterly and hopelessly vile."

We so often forget that wars are almost always waged to achieve a political outcome, and that one fought for no clear political goal is a waste.

Yeah, I look to wikipedia for everything. still not clear if he was a 'commissioned officer' or a victorian version of 'imbedded reporter'. He was a little guy back then. His whole uniform is in Blenhiem Palace. Cranky. His sun helmet was as big as his shirt, and the Mauser pistol was as long as his thigh! Gun nuts on here probably aren't aware of how his articles on how this semi auto pistol saved his bacon twice in the Sudan, small a bullet as it was. Semi autos were the mousetrap everyone wanted to design after reading those reports.... even tho the British Army kept the Webley till the 70's???
Yep. A big mistake undoing the wall put around this barbaric gang 500 years ago. The 'trade' and 'expanding empire' is certainly coming back to haunt all of us. Kitchener was already savvey to this gang in the years since Kartoum wasn't he? He once told Gen. Arthur McArthur, Douglas's father- to 'shove a piece of raw pork down their gullet, tie them to a post smeared in lard. And then shoot them. With a large audience of his friends and family in attendance'. That idea soon ended the Philipine resistance.... but it would lead to world court prosecutions nowdays. Still a nice idea for the troops when no one is watching. Spam is pocket sized....
A few years ago when 'homeland insecurity' was looking for anti terrorism ideas from the public, I emailed this old idea. they never sent a thank you email back .......

I read that in WW1 General Pershing took an Arab that had committed an act of terrorism and soaked a bullet in pigs blood and then had him shot. This was done in front of other Arabs to show them that we dont put up with crap, of course this was 90 years ago when pansies didnt run the US government. I read this somewhere but dont know how true it is.

I kinda doubt that. He was posted to the Mexican border forts from 1886 to 1917, then to France, then to a rocking chair. Doug McArthur's dad was the first- and only American general involved with nnalert extremism from the 1790's till recently. He was a arms purchasing inspector in the Springfield Mass area in the civil war, and never really 'fought injuns', so to be in charge of taking over Spanish control of a 1000 tropical islands, with over 5 religions-all of them hostile for one reason or another- new to him! He relyed on Kitchner and a couple French Foreign legion generals then in Vietnam for advice and ideas on dealing with Moros in the southern Philipines. The pig related ideas were the cheapest and touched a nerve quicker than all the rest. Which is why it isn't used now. too efficent.
Holy wars rarely last over 7 years, that is why things are starting to wind down lately. In 21 or so years, it will all start again.

Yes Tom, that was the particular sentence that prompted me to place it on here, hence Nothing changed. Then a statement from the defeated leader at the "siege of Vienna" which was a type of road map,
