OT/ water pump pressure switch problems

I usually have to replace my pump pressure switch 4-5 times a year. Voltage checks out OK. how long are they supposed to last? Are replacement points available? what is the source? Never had this problem before on other installs.

Something isn't right. I've replaced mine once in 8 years. When it starts to stick (maybe once a year or so) I just kill the power and clean up the points with a small file and or emery cloth and it's good to go again for a long time.

I don't think I have ever changed one, The one at my last house was 30 years old when we sold it and it was still working fine. If you have real bad water the diaphragm can plug up with lime or crud, or if your pressure tank is waterlogged it is starting and stopping too often. I have only had 1/2 and 3/4 hp pumps on 240V so that is very light load on a switch.

When you take switch off remove screws from diphram open up check for rust or scale between housing and diphram.Cause rusty steel pipes or hard water. If so clean and reinstall Traper

waterlog press tank can cause it, or one too small for water used. how often is the pump comeing on? shouln't come on till you draw at least 1 gal of water then stay off for close to a min. while water is still running. could also be bad wireing causeing the points to get too hot.

Your sw must be located too close to the pump as being too close to the pump can cause sw problems found that out many years ago move sw and havent replaced for so long i have even forgot when id moved the sw.

The pump might be too much horsepower for the switch you are using in which case you would need a contactor for the load of the pump. Another thing which may cause a problem is if the nipple to the switch is full of rust. We always use a brass nipple to prevent buildup.

I having to replace mine this morning, I get those little black ants on my pressure switch and have to replace the switch at least once a year.
