International Harvester L-120 Series Pickup (PICS)

Well I had been shopping around for an old late 1940"s to early 1950"s Pickup and today I found what fit the bill!

This morning, like every morning, I was searching the advertisements on Craigslist and came across this old 1952 International Harvester L-120 3/4 Pickup. As it was nearby, I went over and looked at it between classes. Its a straight old truck that wasn't abused. Granted there are some dents, but not really a lot of rust issues. The Box is in great shape and so is the cab, the floors are solid! It has the OHV 220 Six Cylinder with 60,000 miles and a Four speed on the floor. I was able to drive it around where it was parked, and it drove good. Just have to pump the breaks twice to stop! The trucks only option, the heater, even blows hot! It also has a new battery in it.
I gave $1100 for it, not to bad I think. The seller wanted $1500.

Anyways, I hope you enjoyed the story and the pictures!

I will post more when I get the truck home this weekend.

Thanks for reading!

Do you just like outdated stuff/misery or do you simply have too much money to blow????

Congrats on your prize!!I used to have a 1952 L-160,it was a GOOD little truck,Wish it was still in my yard.

SO right!

That truck is totally SWEEEEET! Just remember that those ol' L-series Binders are tougher'n new rope...except the factory bumpers, which are soft as warm butter.

Worst places for rust are around the park lights, just under the headlights...'cause there weren't any inner fender panels, and all the road crud ended up being thrown on the backside of the grille panel.

Both of my trucks are the L-110 half-ton models.

Sour grapes??

Neat !!!! I see they are offering afermarket "OnStar "systems now , be cool upgrade , along withj flip down DVD player /sound system and remote starter !!!!!lmao .. Congrats on the find

does that one have the 9 foot box on it??? neighbor had one down in Galveston...he always helped us at melon pickin time...took forever to load that damm truck lol
nice find

great find, those old trucks are tough as they come, made to work, not play, looks like its got the 9 foot bed too, fix it up and take care of it, and it should last as long as you can climb in it and drive

Looks like a nice project! I have an L132 truck with a flatbed, I think it's a 1950 if I remember right. I use it a lot around the farm. Would like to fix up the body work someday, but then it would be too nice to use for working. Have fun learning how to double clutch with it! The transmission is pretty much like a tractor, with no synchro, so you have to double clutch on the up-shifts as well as down shifting. I thought something was wrong with my clutch until I got it figured out. Just gotta match your engine RPMs to the ground speed. And you have to DRIVE those old trucks, wind up that engine before you start to shift.

Cool find:) That's a nice truck. Love that older stuff, they have so much character. You did well!! Thanks for posting the pics, so we all could enjoy the moment.

I think he just likes old stuff AND has money to blow!! I love it. Im in the same boat, young and love that old stuff only diff is i dont have a lot of money lol. Keep it up love your posts.

Quick! Get the sawzall out and hack it up and cram a small block Chevy in it. And put a gawdy interior in it with a bunch of plush and noisy electronics. NOT! as you can see I like the original restorations. Looks like a solid find and a reasonable price. Been lookin for one like that myself

Love it. I am truckless(pickup, anyway) since grandson told wife that my truck 72 dodge just needed one good kick and it would fall on the ground. Liked him better when he was little. Dave

Thanks for all the great replies everyone! Once I get the truck home this weekend I will have even more pictures to post.

Stay tuned!

Very nice, Andrew! I thought the background in those pictures looked familiar! I drove past on NW 48th street by Lincoln this past Saturday and spotted that truck sitting back there! I have a 1950 L160 that I bought in the fall of last year. I worked on it during the winter, got it running and rebuilt the brake system too.

Nice truck! Looks really solid from what I can see. With the flatbed on it, you can do so much work around the place!

Thanks for posting the pictures!

I have got a 1950 l 160 that some school out in kansas wen thru about 4 years ago. I bought it to get a concrete mixer it had mounted. real solid with good glass decent brakes. If any one is intrested e-mail me for photos. will be cheap.
6 cyl rd 220 I think with 4 speed. Located Middle Tennessee

I see by the photo, that it's got a "full
Floating" rear axle. Great find. There are
sources to get a IH "Line setting Ticket" which
lists all of the parts installed as it went down
the assambly line. Its a great help when looking
for parts. It will tell the rear axle part number
, (probably a Dana 44)and ratio, and transmission
make and model. I got a "Ticket for my Scout, and
didn't know that I had a "Limited slip" rear end
until then.
