when did silver king change from a pointed front end to a rounded front?

Hello, It depends which rounded front end you"re talking about. On the 3-wheelers they changed from the pointed cast grille to a rounded cast grille starting in 1938. On the 4-wheelers they changed from the pointed cast grille to a rounded cast grille in 1939. (actually right at the very last of production in 1938) In 1943 both 3 and 4 wheelers switched to the rounded expanded sheet metal grille. Hope this helps.

thanks for the help.mine has the round cast frount but it has no serial number tag so I'm trying to narrow it down

Well maybe I can help you. Is it a 3 or 4 wheeler? Does it say Silver King going vertically or horizontally? Does it have a Hercules IXB or IXB-3 or Continental F162?

HI It is a 4 wheeler and the silver king is vertical.It has a Hercules IXB. I have the engine out of it and sent away to be rebuilt.
