Tell my boys the brilliant red paint job and repairs on the Farmall H, if I can get her into the Christmas parade, is cool. Tell them the old Gibson guitar in the closet (that I haven't played in decades) is cool, the two-tone '57 Chevy 2-door hardtop is cool, but, sorry boys, that little clicking telephone you play with all day long is not cool. It's a TELEPHONE, for crying out loud.
They just roll their eyes at me.

Still remember Jay Leno on the Tonight Show, talking about the newest thing, called texting (first I had heard of it) in his monologue. "See, by hitting the 2 twice, you get a "b", or 3 times, you get a "c", and so on until you have typed a message." Then he gets that sort of incredulous look of his, holds up the cell phone, and says, "Its a PHONE, people- YOU CAN TALK ON IT!"

I can't help but be amused by ads on Craigslist that say "Respond by text only". Wonder how many potential buyers like me they are missing out on. I don't do no stinkin' texting.

Mine text but they didn't as teens......and you will never convince them that an un electric guitar is cool....ROFL! Heck I'm 56 and don't think it's cool..... :shock:

I know how to text.
I refuse to text with a phone.
The way I see it with C-list ads is if they don't list a phone # for voice or answer their e-mail when I respond they lose my business.

In all reality we are texting here on this forum, but I consider it different because in my case I am not using my phone to do it.

Well I can see your problem (or should I say "i c ur prob"), LOL. It's *not* just a phone anymore. It's a multi-format telecommunications device, which includes voice, text, email, mms, etc. It's a still camera, a video camera, a note pad, an audio recorder, a game platform, an MP3 player, and a multi-purpose computing device. You're probably not getting your money's worth if you're just using it as a phone.

I have a hard time remembering how we made hay without texting. Much easier to read texts than try to hear voice when you're wearing hearing protection.

In my opinion it is nothing but their form of entertainment. You see , we as parents were so obcessed with making sure OUR kids didn't have to slave away like we did as kids , that we both went out and got jobs all while leaving them home to entertain themselves. BUT ! boy we are proud because of all the extra money we make to provide all the electronic devices and services and pay for their car and insurance and plates etc,etc. But they are getting good grades and it is the least we can do for them! What do ya mean meke them get a job?? They just don't have the time what with studying and their nessessary social life. We are just so proud of them. Just look at the size of them thumb muscles! Excuse me while I go puke. RB

There is a used car dealer here in town that offers a classic once in a while. The other day I went by and he had a baby blue '57 Chevy convertible on the lot. I was afraid to stop and ask.

what model Gibson ?

Friend of mine .. he took seizures about once a month.. he had a Les Paul Mary Ford .. he used to let me play it never knew the value till he died .. seizure related .Family sold it to a collector they could have gotten more, but it had a couple dings on it.. only got just under $125.000 for it.

My uncle just sold his Gibson for about $15,000 he is 93 and can't play it anymore.

The right of the parent is to regulate the time of the child.
I think phone, game, gadget time are all things to be earned - maybe by cleaning old Farmall parts.
