What is it ?

I bought this potato digger and thought you guys might know what make it is. No tag on it and it is green.

It looks blue to me. I'll say it's a P&O or IH I have a walking "hand" P&O potato digger that made into a 3 point hitch digger.

That is a real nice old tool.
Looks like with a bit of oil and grease and a little banging on that rear corner you could put it to work.
I'd be glad to ride it for an hour or two.
Would this be a machine that was made for horses and adapted to use on a tractor?
I see no provision to add a little trailer to the back end of it so a helper could catch the potatoes and bag them as you went.
Would beat having to go back and pick them afterwards.
Great piece, Great photos.
Thanks

If it was designed for horse use, it would have a two wheel dolly on the front. Maybe missing, or converted for tractor?

(quoted from post at 22:55:43 11/08/11) You rule out it being a Dodge the wheels are round
and its not shaking to pieces.

lol

How is it that guests can post?
I had to register.

A little research turned up this Ad for an 1893 Hoover &Prout Potatoe Digger.Looks like your picture. This Ad is 118 years old but the machine probably had some success after 1893 so yours could be from the 1920"s - 1930"s.Regardless a Fore Cart to hitch a team to would be part of the machines attachments.

We used to have one that looked just like that. It was made by Iron Age. We had a Iron Age potato planter too.

The guy that I got it from said he used it last year and it still had some dirt on it so I think he did. He's not going to grow potatos any more. I did oil it up some and tried it and it did work good. Next fall I'll see how it works and let you know.
