Okay, so my shop manual for my old Ford tractor found my roof leak on the back porch. Anyone got ideas on how I can dry it out and not ruin it? It is soaked completely through. Any help would be appreciated.

Towel it off, as best you can, each page, then put a paper towel, or sheet of newspaper, between each page, and change everyday, till it's dry.

Like DiYDave said dry it as best you can and then continually put a sheet of paper towel, or anything that will soak up moisture from the pages, between the pages until it's dry. I've seen this happen many times over the years and if you let it dry without something between the pages they will most likely stick together and your book will be ruined for sure. Another thing I've seen done is to put it in front of a heat register where it has warm air blowing across it and that will help it dry a little faster. Good luck.

Here's another question regarding a manual that got wet and dried on it's own. If a guy would soak it and then go through the steps to dry it out, would that work? The pages are already water damaged, but if a guy could get them to separate then it'd atleast be useable.

Thanks to all for the responses and ideas. I am on my own on this one, no wife to help out. I guess since it is already wet, I will try the freezer method and see if I can get at least some of the moisture out. Since I have an oil burner for heat, I am thinking some time on top with the fan blowing will help dry it out, along with some paper towel help. Hope I can salvage this one, if not I guess I will have to buy another one. Thanks again everyone!

My tractor has a little holder for the manual. Good for nothing. Don"t leave it in it. Definitely separate the pages while still wet.

Separate the manual into individual pages (remove the staples or binding) If the pages are stuck together soak them in COLD water and then separate the individual pages. Lay each page flat on a clean paper towel to dry. When dry (or nearly dry) Iron each page to flatten it, remove wrinkles and to insure that it is completely dry. Re-staple or put in a three ring binder. Good luck

(quoted from post at 19:58:31 11/07/11) put it in the freezer,,,then take it out and shake the ice out of it.

Yes, put it in the freezer. I'm pretty sure that is the method used for water damaged documents after a fire.
