Does anyone else have a luxaire heat pump. We got a Luxaire heat pump because it's supposed to quite and efficient. It runs fairly quite in the A/C mode, but when it's in the heat mode it makes all sorts of noise. Loud humming and sounds like water in steam pipes in the old steam systems. This doesn't seem normal to me.I've had nothing but trouble with this system.Does anybody have experience or advice on heat pumps.

We've always had either Trane or Carrier- never gave any trouble, don't know what your problem could be. Have you had the dealer look at it?

It isn't uncommon for some of the newer low end heat pumps to be very noisy. The water in steam pipes is a good characterization of the sound and is basicly the same cause and effect, just substitute refrigerant for water and you have it. In heat mode the refrigerant vapor travels through the evaporator inside and dumps the heat it acquired in the condensor & changes back to a liquid state near the bottom. Insulation will help, but I doubt you'll ever get it quiet.

Thanks for the replies. The guy who installed the unit said it would be quite. He was the boyfriend of my niece. After he sold us the unit they broke up. I should have went with the installer my electrician neighbor recommended. Now I'm stuck with a low end heat pump I payed high end price for. Dale

Didn't think to mention it earlier but there are a couple things to check that might help some. Make sure the large line has insulation all the way into the air handler. Make sure the lines are supported well also. If you can take the door off make sure none of the small lines inside(if it has them) on the coil are touching each other. An insulation blanket will help some.
