Northern white tail deer.
Minnesota rifle opener tomorrow. We're leaving here in about an hour to head up to the land.
Bags are packed, grub is in the cooler, .270 is sighted in, gas tank is full.
I know a lot of you guys will be afield this weekend. So have a fun, safe hunt. And good luck to you all.

Kill 'em all, UD.

I narrowly averted a tragedy on the way home from work early Thursday morning.

I was able to swerve to avoid hitting the buck head on at 70 MPH but his head and antlers did take off my driver's side mirror.

If I had hit him, the air bags would have deployed causing me to crash even if the buck did not come through the windshield. No one can drive with an air bag in their face.

I wish we could use a rifle. I live in the nanny state of Illinois where we are only allowed to use a slug shotgun to hunt deer.

More like Odocoileus Virginianus - whitetail deer. That's what we have here in Michigan...
For our friends in Illinois, can you use a muzzle loader? In Michigan they can be used as well as shotguns in shotgun zone (southern half of lower pennisula.) Fortunately, I live about twenty miles north of the line, and can use a rifle. I have heard there is a plan already to go to move the line farther north. If they do, I'll dig out my in-line for sure.
