head gasket

I rebuilt my Farmall Cub engine about 3 years ago. It has been on the engine stand in my shop since then, until now. I installed the engine and filled the radiator. After several days of sitting (I have not started it yet) there are beads of water showing on both sides of the head at the gasket line. The head was completely redone prior to my installing it. It is torqued correctly and I used a new gasket. I can't recall if I used any other sealant, but I usually don't. So will running the motor cause the gasket to seal or am I looking at pulling the head (again) and replacing the already new head gasket?

I would pull the head and use copper coat brand spray sealant on both sides of the (already used) gasket. It will continue to leak after running because the coolant is already in the gap. Run to operating temp, then retorque. Jim

I would warm up the engine providing there is nothing in the cylinders. Warm it up and re-torque the head as recommended.
IF there is water in the cylinders, pull all the plugs and crank it over to clear.
If it still appears to have a seeping problem, pressure test the cooling system and inspect the mating surfaces for leakage.

Hi, Did you replace the sleeves when you did the rebuild? I had a problem with the new sleeves protruding higher than the recommended .003-.007
Because of that I couldn't get my head gasket to seal and I keep getting water into the oil pan. Got the tips right here a couple years ago. Great people here.

I remember working on a few of those back in school. As soon as we fired them up water started coming out everywhere. We stood ready with a torque wrench and gave them a retorque as that's all they needed.

I'd start with a retorque now and then again after it's warmed up too. Then see if it is fine.
