sorry about it being sideways, i'm just glad they came in behind me so i wasn't behind them, scary

Back in the 70's I hauled about 1000 lbs. of lumber home from LaCross, Wisc. to Decorah Ia. on the top of a 69 Satelite 2 door hardtop. Everything except the steel for a 12 X 18 storage shed I was building. Pumped the tires to aobut 40 lbs to keep them somewhat round.

It dose make you wonder just what people are thinking about when they do things like that. Same as this guy was thinking about I quess? What a waste of a good car. Bandit PS Buddy of mine sent the pic to me and said there was 60 bags of cement in there too. Opps!

(quoted from post at 02:41:39 11/03/11) You are serious, I thought the car was scrapped and they had steel setting on top.

Heck since those mooses stole Lyles' Pickup this is what he uses to pull his camper with.

It's the real deal. They came in behind me. The fellow next to me said oh my gosh lock at that. He saw me take the pic and handed me his card and said please text the pic to him nobody would believe him when he told them so I did. I had to sneak the pic. The guy driving didn't like everybody looking at him. If he can load all that metal like that he certainly could cut my rearend.

I wouldn't be worried about the roof capacity. What I want to know is how the heck was it strapped down? I can't see any "beefy" straps and with that long of a load, it must have been a real nail-biter driving it, not to mention the danger he put everyone in that was on the road with him. A cop would/should have stopped him in a heartbeat. Making any kind of turn, even at slow speed would have been interesting.

Every week, the night before garbage pickup, I see people trolling our subdivision, looking for scrap. Some in pickups, vans or with trailers but also people loading bbq's, old swing sets, etc into the trunks of their cars. I just shake my head. For the few pennies they get on that stuff, I can't believe it pays for the gas, wear/tear on their vehicles, their time and the risk they're taking.

I think scrap is in the couple hundred $$$ per ton range, so an old bbq that weighs maybe 25 lbs. will bring what? $2.00? That's half a gallon of gas or so. At 20 mpg, that's 10 miles. Driving through the streets of our sub is well over a 5 mile trip. (Scratching my head)

See that here with fire wood. Most people have wood to cut or know someone who will let them cut for cash/trade or work helping them cut so wood here is cheap. A friend cuts and sells a heaping pickup load for 100 dollars often driving 100 miles or more round trip to deliver never taking into account wear and tear, fuel, depresiation on the truck or thinking about how much it's costing him to run and maintain his saws. Work it out on paper he is making money......about 7 bucks a load.

I got a gas grill from a coworker and picked another out of the garbage. Between the brass from the valves and the cast aluminum base & lid, I ended up getting about $15-$20 apiece for them. It takes a few minutes to pull them apart, but well worth the time.
