Just had some work done on my bow and er uh set up my target, slung up a backstop, was sighting it in, shooting a tad high, but a few more shots, pin adjustment(s), should be right back on, was going well, until 1/2 way into my draw, the release opened up or was not set right!!! Not sure what the deal was, finger was off the trigger, had a friend behind me, sighting my arrow in case the sight was way off etc.

Punched myself right in the mouth, the reaction caused the bow to point upward, friend saw the arrow take off, says it went high up. I found it 20 yards from the target, unscathed, straight, but missing the nock. So I gets a free punch in the mouth, release handle right to the lower lip actually, no dental work needed and find a still good arrow !

Tru-Fire release, which I've used for 10 years, always check to make sure its set too,(jaw properly closed) it came out of this worse than I when all was said and done ! No way I'd trust that one again anyway, but goes to show, an archer had best pay strict attention to what he/she is doing, can happen.

Anyone else done it, including the penalty shot to the mouth ? LOL !!!

PS, from another persons perspective, must have looked pretty darn foolish too !!! Well we all play the part of a fool sooner or later !

I learned years ago.shooting target archery to always point the arrow at the target when drawing the bow to at least get some kind of score in case what you had happen did occur,I still do that today plus it causes less movement when drawing on deer. And yes that has happened to a lot of us,it's a mechanical device and things happen, plus you add the human factor and it doubles.

You're absolutely right about that, you need to be well disciplined in the entire process, especially the draw.. sure won't forget that anytime soon !

lol ,,,been there done that Billy ...I use a True Fire also . Playing hooky from work and house this wed & thurs, heading up to cabin maybe get a deer , maybe cut some wood , for sure unwind and several adult beverages

Back when I could still shoot the re-curve/compound type bow I learned to always point the arrow down when pulling it back that way it could not go some place that could hurt something. But I was a hunt safety instructor and to me there is no such thing as an accident But there are people who need to learn.
