Some folks just should not be allowed to own hand tools.

Ya just haven't lived 'til you've yanked one of these poopers down out of it's nest after some fool used lock-tight on the housing bolts.

40-minute repair took me 2-1/2 hours just to get the silly thing out. Grrrrrr.......:>(

LOL with me it isn't the glues it's the beat to death, welded up, rounded off things that I run into......mostly farmer engineered things.

pink lock tite is factory on the 5 bolts you removed. The red sealer between the halfs is anerobic sealer. Get it at Case iH or GM

Yeah, I know; done these things by the 100's.

But it shouldn't have red thread LOCKER on the bolts; damned bolts fought me to the very last last thread. The joker really did a bang up job on the seal too.

I've alredy got the air-out sealer for the housing.

Am trying to decide if I should replace that torrington bearing? Ol' heifer has 'bout a half million miles on 'er. Axle looks good tho.

Hey Allan

A little heat helps alot.Axle Seal leaking? I see you have the old style actuator yet.Not many that havent been updated around here...

More like a faucet than a 'leak'. :>)

Yeah, I know. But, I'm kinda wormy bout havin' it original.

It'll give me somethin' to cuss when it's really, really cold outside and I'm in the middle of a snow drift. :>)

Was lyin' under that sucker yesterday thinkin', "This is a young man's trade".

'Course I hated it back then too. But, I was good at it and a feller does what he has to do to buy a bag of beans. :>)

I agree on the "young man's work".

Then, I'm DUMB enough from time to time to wrench on a modern combine or 4 X 4 tractor. Climbing around on that BIG stuff is DEFINITELY "young man's work"!

Sounds like the truck is a keeper. I'd weigh the cost of that bearing against the hassle of taking that assembly out of there a second time, in the middle of a big snowstorm. Then I'd stop wasting my limited brain power, go buy the bearing, and put it in there this time while the truck is in the nice dry shop.

Done a few dozen of those. Speedi sleeve and a new seal and they are good to go for a few hundred thousand more miles. hahaha

Thought that sounded familiar. We went thru Chadron last fall on our way, kind of round about , to Seattle from Michigan. Pretty open country. Glad I got to see it.
