Scrap prices?

Talked to Chris this morning while his mechanic was inspecting my truck. He also is a large scrapper in the area. He said to stockpile any scrap I have because prices have dropped $30+ per ton in the past month. I'm assuming this is primarily for "crush" metal. Is this a northeast thing or are prices down all over?

Ya the wife took in some cans yesterday and I looked on the board at the price list. All the prices are down. This summer batteries where $9 each or $0.17 per lbs Brass radiators where at $00.65 per lbs but now batteries are at $6 each and all other prices are down about 10-15%

prices near buffalo ny today, Cars $240 a ton,aluminum .50 a pound,batteries .25 a pound,#2 copper $2.40 a pound.prices vary by locations. (gasoline $3.69 a gallon) bill

I called our local yard the other day as I had an old Saturn to take, he told me it would be $275 per ton across the scale. Thats probably where its headed next week.

Scrap prices follow the price of oil, oil was below $80 temporarily and now coming back up.

Word is at the yard I work for 50 per ton drop starting the 1st. In Flint mi.

An auto salvage yard just paid $300 for a 15 year old, junk, beat up, non running, back window shot out, flat tires, mid size car. They even came out and picked it up.

They guy that got rid of the car was very happy.

I also work at a salvage company.we are working Sat and Sun to move tonage out before Tuesday. Been told price dropping $50 or more across the board.

Since September it's been $10.00 per 100lbs of mixed steel(appliances etc). I would think that we would want low scrap prices, as those old tractor parts that we use to keep our machines running are what would be selling to scrap yards. I man in Whiteville will sell a 6' Bush Hog for $150 now while scrap prices are dropping. He won't let it go that cheap, otherwise.

All the rumors are it is going down but got 15cents or $ 300.00 ton for 16 ton of mixed old machinery scrap this week. The mill hear is begging for scrap.
