OT/ Poly liquid fertilizer tank

I'm in the beginning stages of shopping for a vertical poly tank that will hold a semi truck load (approx 5000 gal) of liquid 28% or 32% nitrogen. Any ideas on what I should or should not look for? I'm thinking of getting a 6000 gal tank for good measure. It will be inside a building with a dirt floor. On the net I've found some good looking deals but I'm leery about a 'good deal' that could turn out to be a disaster. This stuff weighs a little over 10 lbs per gallon. A neighbor told me he has a couple of tanks that have ribbed sides instead of smooth. The ribbed ones are supposedly stronger. What have you guys seen that's good and strong but doesn't cost an arm and a leg? I'll have to look into the containment laws but I think I'm OK without containment at 6000 gals. Jim

look at U.S.Plastic in lima ohio, or ace roto mold for tanks. i have tanks form both companys and have had no problems. i figure .85 cents a gal for the cost of the tank to give you a idea of cost. depending on what was in the tanks if they are used some chemicals make tanks easy to crack. hope this helps.

I have an older 6000 gal. aluminum fert. tank I bought used. The tank sheets appear OK, but apparently the liq.N has attacked the welds! Looks like it will end up as scrap.
I have four Norwesco 1500 gal. poly tanks I use for liq.N. I slide one on my bulldozer trailer and use it to haul to the field.
I looked at used poly tanks but thankfully noticed a crease around a raised area in the bottoms of them.

You might want to check your states law about containment. Here in Iowa a 5000 gal tank must be diked. Some trucking companies will not deliver to an undiked tank. A lot of farmers use a 4500 gal vs 5000. Even if you only put 4000 gal in a 5000 it still must comply.
Ain't it fun....

So that means I need to lower my sights on the size issue. Thanks for the info.

I forgot about Ace Roto-Mold. They're about 60 miles away from me. They're more farm oriented. I looked up their website. Jim

The Iowa law says 5000 gallons or less without containment for fertilizers. Looked it up on the website. Talked to a liquid trucker and he said he hauls somewhere in the 4600 gallon range. Jim

I could sell you three of these tanks for $500 each. They were designed for water. Capacity is 2033 gallons. If they were filled to 75%, they would be safe for the denser chemical and would hold a trailer load. I am in eastern MA. They may meet containment restrictions in your jurisdiction. There are no bulkhead fittings to leak or blow out. Three will fit on a tag-a-long trailer. It's about 20 hours of travel one way.

Dimensions are 84" dia x 102" high but I'd have to check to be accurate. Made from medium density polyethylene. Head is detachable. Will sell without wrapper, insulation, coil, head, or skid. It's your choice. but the same price in any configuration.
