Unknown Noise!!! My Feeble Hearing?

Thought I could identify every Chevrolet ailment under the sun. However, just found out that this gettin' old (bad hearing) is no picnic!

So, I'm hearin' a noise in my new, really old Chevy pickup(1988 4x4). Never heard this noise before.........

Sounds just like a side carrier bearing, but higher in pitch, not a growl and it's constant; comes in and drops out right at 35 mph. Coming from somewhere dead center behind that rear window........ I thought.......

Took the wife for a ride last night. She says it is coming right out of that right front fender.

Hmmmmmm. Front hub?

Had a 98 Ford Windstar that did the same thing. Never checked it out farther, but was told that there was an void in the drive shaft, open on both ends, that at a certain speed caused it.
Drove it that way for 60,000 miles. Finally stopped when wife wrecked it.

Don't ask me Allan. I'm deaf in one ear and can't hear out of the other.

Local Ford dealer has a mechanic that's been with him for about 25 years now. The guy can't get a drivers license cause he is legally blind. But you put him in a truck or car with a noise and he can tell you where it is and what it is in about 2 blocks.

Loose plastic tape anti-squeak tape on the door (where it meets the out rubber lip attached to the windshield)?

Windshield (or other glass)not 100 sealed with glue?

Just went out and jacked 'er up; checked the wheel bearings. While there is "plently" of miles on 'em, just don't think that is the source of the noise.

Reminds me of the noise that those old cell phone antennas would make when someone planted one on the roof. 'Cept this one doesn't have an antenna. :>)

Yep, had to seal the top of the windshield because of a water leak.......and while we're at it, ya don't suppose this out-of-place joker is settin' up a howl?

the chrome on my dodge mirrors is pealing off inside the mirror cavity. Makes a similar noise at certain speeds.

If it is wind noise caused by something like that thing and it only happens at 35 that speed should go up or down depending on headwind or tail wind. If it only happens at 35 regardless of the wind direction it is something else.

Bought a new Dodge Dakota in 2000 that would get a weird noise at about 65. Over or under that speed it didn't bother. Took it in and they finally replaced the drive shaft and that took care of it. Must have been off a little.

Yep,

That's where I'm heading next. All the darned boxes were dry. A wonder that anything works anymore. :>(

Had a 90 buick that had the molding loose in the center of the windshield that would buss if you we heading into the wind, took years to find it.

Had an uncle like that. So bind needed help just walk to the car but he knew what was wrong with it
just listening to it come up the lane and if you got he parts cold fix it.

If it is kind of a chirping noise, then it could be the U-joints. My stepson's 2004 4x4 just went through that repair to end the noise.

Sounds like the whine I had on my 94 chev 2wd. Cost me just under $1000 to put in some bearings and two new gears in the rearend.

Yep, hub. Or that's what mine have sounded like when they went. Right down to the sound from the center. Started to think mine was front univ. joint, or a weird tranny sound. Didn't know they were using hub assemblies that early.

If that's what it is, mine were really slow wearing. I waited more than 20k miles before they got really bothersome. But I'm poor. And it was winter.
