I saw Billonthefarm's post below about wiping out his four wheeler. I see DaveII responded about his four wheeler. It made me curious about the requirements to own/run a four wheeler in Germany. Any other country for that matter.

I would think that is many poorer countries that they would be a major source or transportation due too the lower cost to buy and run. So how about it guys, what have you seen in other parts of the world????

If they are on a public road/path, they have to pass safety inspection and be licensed/ insured with lights, signals, etc.... and you have to have a drivers license to operate them. 50cc and smaller gets a different plate and you can have a lower grade license (14 yearold I think) to operate them.
that's in My little piece of Germany.

They are very common in The UK on hill farms, usually with a border collie hitching a ride too. The ideal combination for rounding up those awkward sheep!

I run mine on the roads here in Nordrheinwestfalia, Germany. They have to be made 'road legal' and inspected at the specific times like a normal car would, then insurance and you get a plate.
I use mine to get me from base to base to get to work mainly, but also around town.
Being in the British army over here thou we have to follow Uk inspection standards, and they have 'moved the goal posts'. A quad now has to have a mechanical park brake to pass its inspection, hydraulic applied 1's aren't good enough.
Good old goverment agencies, don't you just love um...

Ever check the gas mileage on your ATV.My Honda Ranher, 420 cc gets about 16 mpg. That's spraying, odd josb, maybe a few trips to neighbors a mile away.

As far as I know , there is no way to make 4 wheelers road legal in SC. On the other hand, the state allows mopeds, other wise known as DUIcycles since people who lost their license get them. They have a top speed of 35-40 mph. I don't like to share the road with them and would not like to share with 4 wheelers either if that were an option. That dosen't mean you don't see 4 wheelers on the road occasionally, along with golf carts.
