Ford 8n starter problems

I have a late 52 8n and my starter drive came apart and tore alot of teeth off my flywheel. So I tore the tractor apart and had a new ring pressed on the flywheel and a new drive put on the starter. I got it put back togeather and now the drive will not release when the tractor starts. It just stays engaged. Im wondering if maybe I need a drive for a NAA. The reason Im wondering is because last year I put new brakes on it and 8n brakes would not fit. I had to use NAA brakes. Do you think this could be the case?

Almost sounds like you have a different model tractor then you believe you have. The engine is a flat head right??? Are you sure you got the ring gear in the correct way???

We have a 2N built toward the end of the 2N model production run. It has some 8N (which followed it) parts. Steering, floorboards, etc. Could you have a 8N that was built during a model changeover (as we do with our 2N) and a mix of parts.

This may or may not be your problem, am just sharing my experience.

Ford starters can be for front mounted starters (cars and power units)that face rearward or rear mounted facing forward(maybe!). They turn opposite directions. or

Yes it is a flat head engine but the serial number is at the end of the list. I am just wondering if a NAA drive will fit on the starter shaft?

The NAA/Jubilee starter mounts different and if I remember right the bendex is the inclosed type where as the 8N is the open ended type so the 2 will not swap out

Are you sure? S to starter push button (like you wrote), and the "other" terminal (labeled "I" on my solenoid) to the key switch (not sure if the OP's is the same).

The early tractors were 6v. I am not sure if the Relays had 4 terminals or 2. Sis for start, I is for ignition resistor bypass. Some Ford truck relays were hot at the relay S terminal, and the button grounded it. Jim
