New history channel show Harvest

The History channel isn't what it use to be..
Whats happening today is current events, or so
what I learned in school??

And it's another big reallity show like the
Ice Road Trucker & king Crab Fish'en,, It's
all B S....

Ever work a harvest? Long boring hours, not very exciting unless something catches on fire.

Bet they got lots of drama built into it (Jimbo's wife, 2nd cousin is due any day and he can't go home and Bob's boy freind is leaving him cause he's never home kinda stuff). And lets not forget to mention, over and over how much the equipment cost and how important it is for the farmer to get his crops in and it may rain tomorrow!

When I worked the harvest they wouldn't hire you if you were married. They charged by the acre plus so much per day for each combine and truck on your place plus so much a mile for the trucks.

Don't think I would really care to watch it.

Seems like they keep trying to dramatize near-accidents and danger. In the real world those careers wouldn't last long.

Its all about drama. What are we teaching our kids??? Thats its ok to BLOW UP in stressful situations? Yelling is the best way to get your point across??

When grandpa came across a stressful situation (and i didn't realize at that time they were stressful until recently) he would think before he spoke, and thought things through.

I wish i grew up in the 40's. I woulda been a better man due to my surroundings. A TRUE survior!!!

I was going to give it one more chance to get better but I forgot to record it last night...... I guess I didn't miss much.

Tim

Nope they wouldn't last long when there are too many close calls, stressing and yelling at the boss and other guys......nope wouldn't last long!

big let down for me too, how many times has some one cut wheat and the crop wasn't fire ready? I mean wow its too hot and dry to cut wheat!!! and the truck that overheated as well as the combine and you just walk away for an hour and see's fine??? I actually watch gauges and make sure its not getting up into melt down range, if it gets to high I remove the load and let her run at high idle to let her cool not wait until the system shuts it down then just say,,well we will have to blow that out tomorow!! also how amazing was it that the kid didn't know the wheat was green!!! what the monitors didn't tell him squat?( had to be throughing a lot over at least) heck even my 40 year old plus machines will tell you that, if back when I had customcutters work for me one had been "hogging" through a green field with no reguard for my bottom line they would have been out of there right now!then to magicly catch the field on fire then continue running the machine, one question, why did the fire go out on the machine?? and how dumb is he to get out and think he is going to stop a grain field fire of that size wita 20lb fire exteigisher?? REALLY???, sorry to rant but they are trying to tell "city" folk how this is done?? this is wrong from many angles

Too many reality shows. I enjoyed the motorcycle builders when they were building the bikes. Now there is a lot of drama on that show. And get ready. There is a new show starting up next week called the Monster-In-Laws. Get real already.

I have not seen it yet. Does it have a lot of "fast motion" in it? Those logging programs have all that heavy equipment racing around trying to beat the weather or the competition.

I wrote and complained that it sends the wrong message to kids that might want to get into that kind of work someday. All those machines racing around is a recipe for disaster.

Well never worked a harvest crew. Just harvest the acres we farm and know exciting things rarely happin. thank goodness.lol. The whole show last night was just focused on the heat and dry conditions. Ive always been interested in how those big harvesting crews work out there. All i seen last night was talk of the hot temperatures and how dry it was over and over again. I was less than impressed with the show. Not sure if Ill give it another chance or not.

I would say you are on the exact same page as I am. Did you notice the tractor and disk just sittin there? I know here that if you have a fire like that and theres a disk handy you grab it and do what you can to stop the fire before the fire dept gets there. I know you dont get the whole real story but I mean really come on.

I wouldnt waste your time stayin up for it. I use to really enjoy the ax men program the first couple seasons then they just focused on the drama and made this huge competion out of it. What happened to watchin the cuttin crews fallin trees and watchin them do a job start to finish.

How about the custom chopper....Took him 4 minutes to fill a truck, needed it done in something like 2.5 minutes or he was going to get canned.BS It would be hardpressed to fill a truck in 4 minutes in the 1st place. Its all BS

When I did it if the crop was ready and the dew was off we ran! Problems with a machine was fixed now! One pace we were in was really dusty and we would drive the combines to the farmers home place every night when it got too tuff to continue. Then IN the moring besides fuilling up, greasing and checking oil we blew out the rads and filters every morning! The bine I was running lost an alternator about noon one day. I shut down all the electrical while to boss ran to the JD dealers and got a replacement. I kept running untill just before dark when he had me stop and we replaced it and I was going again. Wasn't a big problem and nothing to get excited about. Only lost about 1/2 hour of field time. Only real excitement all summer was a couple of days running with only 2 trucks cause a driver quit.

Rick

my thoughts excatly, and they try to talk safety, would you stick your head into a header like he did with a "rookie" at the controls with engine running?? I have never done silage before but if the choppers get behind can't yoyu just hold off a day on the windrowing? thats how I do it haying, but then my boreing real life farming would make the rating I guess!! also did you guys catch the putor pic of the chopper and how it worked? showed a combine with large header and had a chopper/knife instead of cylinder/rotor I was a little confused to say the least

So, would a show where the combine just goes back and forth across the field doing the same thing over and over, with a brief pause to offload every few minutes, make you guys happy?

Guy combines some wheat. Guy combines more wheat. Guy combines wheat for 14 hours straight without incident.

Boy howdy, what a show! It'll give American Idol and Survivor a run for their money!

Reality is nobody would watch it. Network would never put it on the air.

For my two cents they should rename History Si Fi 'cause all you get is "end of days" "alien" BS. You cant' flippin tell me that martians built Stonehnge or the Pyramids!!

i watched it. not impressed same thing on all the other shows one day from bankrupt is how they roll i mean come on what bank would loan money for that operation. also not to get into politics here but since external_link got elected history channel is not about history it is opinions and reality shows when bush was in office it was the world war 2 channel they go with the political intrest anymore

You forgot the "global warming" channel. History,Discovery, all the same thing. There were some shows on one of'em last night about National Parks. Tried to watch the one about Yosemite. The last 15 minutes of it was a bunch of global warming propoganda political garbage.

Well, I've learned one thing for sure and thats the fact the Roland crew has way way too much trouble with New Holland combines. I don't believe I would care to own one. And since when did they put pyrometers on combines, I mean how could you tell the turbo is at 1700 if you didn't have a temp guage to tell you that? Also, how do you overheat without boiling the water in the radiator? No steam or any indication of this going on. Very disappointed in the show.

And also after the son caught the field on fire because he was "pushing the combine too much" he didn't get yelled at by his dad who had been telling him the whole time over the cb to slow down. they just talked about how hard it was to work a father/son operation, but if they worked together they could accomplish anything. Now if this had REALLY happened, the dad would have given the son a yelling of a lifetime that he wouldn't shortly forget. Why can't they have a show that doesn't feed you a load of BS. I know that a show like this wouldn't be very interesting if it showed what really happened on a harvesting crew, but i guess you wouldn't make a show like this then...
