getting on highway, have stop lites on ramps for traffic mergering,,,got green, look in mirror, kids in rice-burner decide to run their red, get on my tail, passes on right shoulder, hurrys thru traffic to left lane to switch to another highway,,,,had to laugh, all that speeding and stupid driving, they came to halt with rush hour traffic, which i know was 3 miles before next exit...lol,lol

Not just kids.

Coming out of Omaha this afternoon on a six lane stretch of I-80, an SUV with Wisconsin plates on it rode my back bumper, like within ten feet, for several miles before it dawned on him that I was in the center lane and there was an open lane on each side of me.

He shot past me like I was standing still, and I had my cruise set on 75. Forty miles down the road, I pulled up behind him in a construction zone.

Couple weeks ago, on I-80 west of here, someone went flying past me like that. Ten minutes or so later I saw flashing lights on the right shoulder. Guess who? I had to chuckle at that one.

I worked 60 miles away Autobahn with quick/easy destinations.for 2 or so years. Now work 3 or so miles away and have to drive the road that leads into the city. One of the reasons my people skills suck......... Road trips are wife driving to the autobahn, me driving the trip, and switching back at the exit near destination.
She gets embarrassed if we hit a traffic jam on the road because I open both doors to keep motorcycles and cars from passing on the shoulder or between.

Years ago a friend told me about driving his '54 Chevy pickup home from St. Louis. His young wife was pregnant, he'd dropped out of college to get a real job, and everything they owned was in the truck. The Chevy had a cruising speed of 40 MPH, and traffic was backed up behind him plumb over the horizon. They came to a flat spot, and about 15 cars blew out around him, some of them honking angrily as they passed. It lowered their spirits to the bottom as they watched all those cars run off and leave them behind. About a mile down the road, they came to the little village of Rockwood, IL and the state police had a radar trap going, with all of those cars pulled over waiting for the officers to "service" them. The speed limit in Rockwood is 45, and Bob didn't even have to slow down as he motored past.

Why would you stop motorcycles from passing on the shoulder or
lane splitting? Its legal in many places as long as they are going
slowly.

not here, try to step out of your car and almost get knocked over once or twice and see how your attitude is. I also drive about 6 inches from the center line when driving the tractor on the road.I pay tax and insurance/fees like everyone else and that 5x10ft piece of road is mine, not to be shared.

not to start a debate, but riding for 35+ yrs, and no ones pays attention to bikes today, no thank you, i stay in a lane and wait out the traffic before i go down a shoulder or between cars that might make lane change with out looking for 2-wheel vehicles

Biker friend was teeboned and lost a leg when lane splitting, it seems he pulled into the path of another impatient biker who was also lane splitting.

(quoted from post at 06:42:18 10/21/11) I would have NO IDEA where it is legal, Not in my part of the country.

Yea kinda what I'm thinking......I've lived in NJ, MN, KS, KY, LA and TX Plus Germany and Korea. Hasn't been leagal in any of those places.
