Makes you wonder

Went to Costco today and stopped at the snack bar there and got a hot dog and soda, $1.66. Gave the kid working exactly $1.66, he gave me $19.00 in change. Told him I shouldn't get change as I gave him the exact amount. He told me I was wrong. Argue with him and he called the manager over. Manager listen to both sides and told me that the kid was right and gave me the $19.00. Guess I'll put an extra $19.00 in the collection basket at church Sunday.

Sounds to me like you accidentally gave him a $20 instead of a $1 and he was honest enough to give you the correct change. I try to avoid doing things like this myself but over the years it has happened a couple of times. Often times I look back in my wallet and realize my mistake but there have been times when a larger bill got trapped between a couple of ones, etc and I was just as suprised to get change back as you were.... I know alot of places I've seen the cashiers don't put the money you give them on top of the drawer, not in the drawer, until they have given back the change, etc. This keeps someone from doing exactly the opposite of what is described here with someone arguing that they did in fact give the guy a $20 instead of a smaller bill.

Regardless of the reason you can count your blessings either way. Remember, not all customers are as honest as you tried to be and not all cashiers are as honest (....or as stupid...LOL) as this one appeares to be.

Good one Lefty - I'm glad that you realize that someone is keeping score. Life is a test. You passed today.

What denominations are your notes? If it cost $1.66 and you got $19 change. Doesn't add up. or a further Discount?
Most likely you gave him $20.66. So you may be a benefactor at church.

At first I thought maybe I did give him a $20. I only had one 20 in my wallet when I left home and it was still there.

Had the same issue at Walmart once. I wanted to buy a tool box. For some reason they were in cardboard boxes in pairs. Didn't really need 2, but for $9 I couldn't beat it. Turns out when they went to ring me up at the check out the bar scanner on the box wouldn't register. After some hassle with managers they gave me the pair for $9. Whe I got home and pulled them out of the box I realized they were SUPPOSED to be removed from the box and sold as $9 a piece. Went back to Wal Mart tried to explain that the stockman had the display all goofed up and that I wanted to return the extra tool box I should not have recieved. They were totally baffled by this. In the end on gal goes "I think he's just trying to be honest" and they gave me the extra tool box for free.
