I bought ivermax pour on cattle dewormer at a farm supply it contains 5 mg ivermectine/ml.it was 40.00 for a 2.5 liter bottle.next to it was a bottle of Eprinex Ivomec same size but it was 200.00 for 2.5 liters.Sales person said because its the generic it is cheaper what tou all think.

If I remember right, the Eprinex has a shorter milk and slaughter withdrawal than just the plain Ivomec. I always used the straight up Ivomec, but thats been several years, just about the time the generics were hitting the market. For some reason I'm thinking the price difference wasn't all that much back then, unless you jumped the Eprinex, then it was considerably more.

Check the Active Ingredients listed on the back. When the patent ran out, they were selling generic ivermectin and the brand name Ivomec next to each other in the store and they were the EXACT SAME THING, but the brand-name product cost double. Nowadays the Ivomec brand product has a different (improved?) active ingredient "eprinomectin" instead of "ivermectin". I don't know the benefits, but they're not the exact same thing. However, the generic ivermectin works just fine in my experience.

My guess is that they are essentially the same, but Ivomec patented a small change to the drug and changed the name for marketing purposes. The same thing happened with the allergy medication Claritin when the patent ran out.

Nothing wrong with the generic stuff.I use the generic stuff once and then switch to Cydectin the next time. It helps to keep from building resisitance in the parasites. Cydectin is a 2nd generation anthelmic.

I have been told by veterinarians that the cheap stuff is cheaper not because of the active ingredient (which is the same ivermectin whether it costs $50 or $250), but because of the carrier. The carrier is what is responsible for a different withdrawal time. So it is basically up to you: do you want the active ingredient in the animal's system for a couple of days, or do you want it in there for the duration of a whole life cycle of the parasite? I believe you get what you pay for, not only this time around, but also by keeping the parasites from developing resistance quicker over time.
