Kubota 8540?

I've been interested in a Kubota 8540 for a number of months now and was seriously considering either a JD 5093E or the Kubota. However, I checked Tractor House and it would seem that perhaps there are just too many late model 8540s for sale, based on a guestimate of sales volume. Anyone have any experience with these 8540 series.. ? Thanks

I bought a Kubota 8540 instead of a Deere because I thought it was the best made tractor of the two. I've had it for 2 years and have put 600 plus hours on it and not a bit of trouble out of it. Plus, it was $17000 cheaper than the Deere with the same options(loader, hydraulics, etc.).

Guy I know has a M7040. Close to the same tractor, just one model smaller. The tractor is reliable, rides nice, lots of power and traction(with Agribibs) It's an 8f/8r trans with hydraulic shuttle. Don't know about the Deere. Based on the Specs it doesn't look too bad but Kubota has the market on reliability and I can tell you that they are a very comfortable tractor to use. There are people that say that the Kubota's are built too light, etc. but I can tell you that the other day I was operating an AGCO RT110A and with the loader lifting to capacity that thing was just as light in the rear end as our Kubota M6030. The loader is whatever AGCO puts on that tractor from ALO.

Can't help with the M8540 but I've put 200 hours on an M7040 4WD. The hydraulic shuttle is excellent, although it has the 4-speed synchro with hi/lo. The 12 speed wasn't available on the M7040. I get by okay with the 8-speed but can see an extra 4 gears would be useful.

Any complaints are niggling. The 3-point lever is short throw which makes fine adjustments tedious when hooking implements.

I like the tractor a lot. There were quite a few choices in that horsepower/size; In the end, though, I bought a dealer, not a color. I'm especially pleased in that respect.

I have the 8 speed with the hydraulic forward/reverser. I have seen times I would like the 12 speed because once in a while a gear in between would work better(especially when running at pto speed).
