What do you folks do with tractors you occasionally use that may get 50 hours a year (???) or one that is used an hour or so a couple times a week (little more in summer)?
Just do it when you think about it? Or do you have a plan???
say, you should change oil and filter by the book at 500 (or 1000) hours but it may take several years to get 500 hours accumulated....

Engine oil & filter once a year to get rid of moisture accumulation. Trans/hyd probably less than the book suggests but not every year as this has a longer change interval anyway. Fuel filters depends on climate. With winter months below freezing, yearly would be good insurance against problems. Air filters visually inspect.

Engine oil and filter each year before storing for the winter. Hydraulic oil at 500 hours but change the Hydraulic filter each year.

What is the total cost of an oil change compared to engine repairs???? I would rather buy a little more oil myself.

Dave the thing of it is you are getting condensation inside the engine when it cools down. I've herd the arguement about changing in the spring or fall but if you are not running the tractor ever so often the oil is still getting contaminated. So change, once a year! The 50 hr recommended oil change most likely included or a certain time period.

As far as break in is concerned.....times change. They are using some new technology with the metals inside and engine that they didn't have when we were young. Find out what brand parts he used and look up the manufacturers recommendations.

Rick.....oh yea work on yer people skills too!
