Hesston 6400

I have an opportunity to purchase a Hesston 6400 with a slant 6 Chrysler engine and 14 foot header. It does not appear to have been used a lot, in other words, I don't think it's worn out. I don't know much about swathers - is this a reasonably well-made machine and possibly worth fixing up, or should I keep looking?

Also, how old is this, and are parts more or less available?

Thanks, Larry

In my mind they are still the best machine out there for the small acerage user. I don"t know what needs fixing but almost every part is still available for them. Head parts are the same as a 1014 pull type. There are piles of them out there yet. The tractor part themselves need almost nothing ever.

I got two machines. The 40th one off the line and then another in the 2000"s range.

We rebuilt our 14' auger style Hesston header last year.
Mostly bearings, sprockets, chains and sickles etc.
Was able to obtain most parts from Hesston though expensive but bought some parts through local bearing supply store a little cheaper.
You will like the Chrysler slant six, ample power, reasonable on gas.
Check around the exhaust manifold as I have seen many with cracks here. So far so good with ours. Good luck.

Thanks for the replies. Am I correct in thinking that I will damage the hydrostatic drive if I tow this unless I use a swather trailer?
