At 65 degrees, Arizonans turn on the heat. People in Minnesota plant gardens.
At 60, Californians shiver uncontrollably. People in Minnesota sunbathe.
At 50, Italian & English cars won't start. People in Minnesota drive with the windows down..
At 40, Georgians don coats, thermal underwear, gloves, wool hats. People in Minnesota throw on a flannel shirt.
At 35, New York landlords finally turn up the heat. People in Minnesota have the last cookout before it gets cold.
At 20, People in Miami all die. Minnesotans close their windows.
At 0, Californians fly away to Mexico . People in Minnesota get out their winter coats.
At 10 below zero, Hollywood disintegrates. The Girl Scouts in Minnesota are selling cookies door to door.
At 20 below, Washington DC runs out of hot air. (Ya think? Nah.). People in Minnesota let their dogs sleep indoors.
At 30 below, Santa Claus abandons the North Pole. Minnesotans get upset because they can't start the snowmobile.
At 40 below, ALL atomic motion stops. People in Minnesota start saying..."Cold enough for ya, eh?"
At 50 below, he11 freezes over. Minnesota public schools will open 2 hours late.

I have lived there, then moved 200 miles south, plan to move another 200 miles south sometime.

When the power steering fluid turns to candle wax, we warm it with a blow dryer to get to work. You Becha. My snow blower is never more than 4 inches from the garage door pointing out! Jim in St. Cloud, MN

I lived in Fresno,CA for 5 yrs, it was nice. Moved back to MN in 1979 where life is good! Bought an extra heavy winter coat as I expected winters to be like they were when I was a kid. It took ten years before it was cold enough to use it. Also took several years before I had to plow the snow more than once or twice. I'm 60 miles north of Minneapolis, all the snow went south for the winter (southern MN).
This has been called "God's Country" by those who've visited from California!

Minnesota Poem

It's winter in Minnesota

And the gental breezes blow

70 miles an hour

At 25 below

Oh how I love Minnesota

When the snow's up to your butt

You take a breath of winter

And your nose gets frozen shut

Yes the weather here is wonderful

Guess I'll hang around

I could never leave Minnesota

CAUSE I"M FORZEN TO THE GROUND!

read a book once long ago on the experiences of a Minn. trapper in winter. He had 19 quilts on his bed, & between each layer of quilts he had layers of newspapers & still got cold at times. Left Minn. when trapping season was over, for warmer climes.

Sorry but this is the up of michigan.. Not minnesota.. The winters up by houghton beat the heck of minnesota winters. How does 200 inches of snow sound?

Yea but it was Fargo ND that got voted as the city with the worst weather......thats about 90 miles from me. While your area and others get more snow MN is known for the brutal weather with a lot od sub zero temps and wind. East ND is worse because it's flat and no trees. We can have a front move through that hit the valley with 50-60 MPH winds and when it hits us 40-60 miles away they have slowed down cause we have hills and trees. At -20 you don't see many folks on snowmobiles.

LOL yea it do.....but I can deal with snow, got me a tractor with a cab and 8' snow blower plus a TLB! It's the cold that bothers me, no heat in that cab (it's about shot keeps the wind off) and feeding and watering livestock not real fun ar -20 with the added windchill for a 30 MPH wind.

Mn is judged by the cold temps......been as low as -60 no wind chill....and how long the cold last (spent 6 weeks at -20 a few years back). Lots of areas around the Great Lakes that get a lot of lake effect snows. I know you UP lake effect snow guys get tired of fighting the snow......just like we get tired of fighting the cold.

Rick

We don't get the bitter cold. But we had plenty of -20 weather last winter. And being 1/4 of a mile from Lake Superior the wind just howl's almost everyday. Its actually uncommon when the wind doesn't howl in the winter time. I also remember many times plowing snow twice a day everyday for 2-3 weeks just to keep the driveway passable. Not uncommon to get a lake effect blizzard and get 40-60 inches of snow in 2-3 days time. Just around the corner now, had flurries a week or two back now its 75 degrees and downright hot out.
