Seedless fruit, veggies, etc have an uneven number of chromosones. A mule which is a cross between a Donkey and a Mare is steril because they have an uneven number of chromosones(63) a horse has (64) a donkey (62). Seedless watermellons a crossed between a mellon with 2 chromosone (a diploid) and one with 4 chromosones. I think a chemical is injected in the to create the diploid. End result is a seedless with 3 chromosones.
