Back in the 60's GMC made a truck called the 'Maxi-Mover'. It was big van truck with a cab-over engine set up with front wheel drive and a large cargo box with twin single wheel rear axels. It was a low floor box to make loading furnitue and such easier. Any body know about these critter or have seen any for sale? Saw an add for one in Michigan several years ago that needed brake work so let it slide, guess I should have bought it then? Thanks for any help.

Never heard of a GM Maxi-Mover. Your description however (forward control; front wheel drive and twin, single wheel rear axles; low floor box) describes exactly the GMC motor home of the early/mid-70's. Perhaps one of these was modified into a cargo van??

The first GMC motor homes were known as TVS4. The workers at the factory called the proto type the pie wagon.

Sorry but that was a diferant truck, the one I looked at was a 60's GMC cab-over truck joined to a 30' box van type body. It was powered by a 6V-71 diesel with a man tranny. The back of the cab-over sleeper opened into the van body from the front and had 2 swinging doors looked to be about 12' tall by 8' wide on the back. Truck was designed for large bulk freight with out a lot of weight. Floor was flat with just some bump in's around wheel wells on each side.

David - A 6V71 and manual tranny says it's definitely NOT a modified GMC motor home! (The motor homes used the Olds Toronado drivetrain: 455 gas V8 + front wheel drive transaxle...)

The truck you spotted sounds unusual indeed! I presume it had air brakes???
