I saw a Cleveland tiling machine video. Who made them? Is Cleveland still in business? Thank you for any information. Armand

I will have to ask my dad but he just left on vacation yesterday morning. I thought Cleveland was the name of the manufacturer also but don't know why I thought that. Worked with Buckeye, Vermeer and Barber Greene. Wish we stil had that Barber Greene. Had an IHC engine in it with 2 or 3 transmissions behind it.

I'm quite young but..

I remember the "Cleveland Trencher" pretty well.. Had the big "wheel" that did the trenching, a conveyor that dumped the dirt off the right side, dual truck tires on the front, tracks on the back.

I agree that Cleveland Trencher should have been the manufacturer, but I'll ask my grandpa when I see him next, as he was the one that had one. I can remember at 6-7 years old walking along the trench with a shovel throwing dirt in on top of the tile with my youngest uncle..

The machine has been gone for probably close to 20 years now..

Sorry I don't know any technical info on the machine, but again, my grandpa would.. They ran theirs for quite a few years before upgrading.

The story I always heard behind them getting their own tiler was they needed some work done but no one could get to them, so grandpa told one of the tilers he guesses he'd just get his own machine.. The tiler laughed at him.. and it was on.. They ran that old thing until the late 80's early 90's, then had a couple Dynapac/Hoes chain machines, then they had another chain machine that was a little newer, then in the late 90's they got a InterDrain plow.. In good conditions they can lay some pipe in a big big hurry.

Thanks for letting me ramble.

Brad: Were you able to get any information from your Grandfather about the Cleveland 140 trencher? Did it have a continental gas engine? If so what model? Also need oil filter number and spec. number from engine tag if you happen to have any records left. Thanks. Armand

Armand,

I did talk to grandad.. I actually forgot about it, but I called him today.. He said the best he recalls, it was a flathead 6 cylinder Continental Red Seal in his..

He couldn't recall off the top of his head what size, or the oil filter it used, but he thinks he still has that stuff wrote down in a old book in the file cabinet and he will try to look either tomorrow morning or in the evening when he gets home from tiling.

Are you fixing one up, or did you happen to get an engine from one? If you're redoing one, I'd be interested to see how it goes.. I always thought it'd be neat to find one and make it look good, even if it didn't work all that well.

Will post back as soon as i hear something.

Brad
