fruit trees...different approach..

Didn't want to hijack the other post... Have seen some gardens that used what I guess was (is) dwarf trees and started them on a cable so they grew like grapes. Some would have two or 3 runners going each direction. Anyone ever done that? Like to try it as a nice useable bearier between the neighbors....

Also is a guy in town that has about 10 trees as a hobby. He experiments with grafting (??) and has one tree with 3 or 4 different varieties on it. A lot of the fruit trees around have mistletoe in them also but he grows a real nice crop in his trees.

Just thought I'd share that.....
 
Espaliers like that are supposed to work real good for some fruit. Ensures that all the branches get good sun, and if there's a heavy fruit load, the weight of the fruit won't break the branches because they're supported by the cables.
 
Local pick your own orchard does that with apple frees. People like to pick fruit off those trees as it's eay picking. They use 3 & 4 strand of heavy wire with post set about 15 feet apart
