duals question

finally found what i thought were duals for my 3020. Guy said his father had these on a 4020. When I got there the tires were 12.4x38 Price was right so I took them anyway. Hubs are 3-3/8 axle size so i need different wedges, but i think i can find them. My question is...will the 12.4 ride ok along side my 15.5 tires on the tractor? or will i need to either find different duals or different tires?

The rolling circumferences are difference, thus I don't think they will do as much for you as compared to using the same size.

Sell those things right now.By the time you buy hubs/wedges and tires,Dismounting/mounting fees, you will spend alot more moneythan buyiny the "right"duals.BTDT Check into a pair of clamp-on duals.Thats what I use- on four tractors.(SM,706,826,1256)

I prefer the same size as the inside tires, only more tread-worn...

For "High-Horse-power" tractors, all four should have equally good tread.
I use them to lessen compaction on loose or damp ground, not so much for the added pulling power I would get...just to reduce slippage..
Makes a world of difference, IF you can pull a wide enough piece of equipment to cover the width of the duals..

12.4-38 duals should work OK with 15.5-38 inner tires. 15.5-38 tires are low-profile with the same diameter and loaded radius as 13.6-38's. We've run them side by side on a 4020 corn-picker tractor that was limited to 15.5's. The inner and outer tires were the same height.

Your 12.4's shouldn't be too much shorter than 13.6's and 15.5's. Unless the 15.5's inner duals are almost new and the 12.4's are really worn down the 12.4 duals should still help alot in soft ground. The weight distiribution might be 60-65% on the inner duals and 40-35% on the outer duals, but that is still a big improvement over 100% of the weight on single 15.5 tires.

Over the years others have posted tire specifications for Firestone brand tires on this site. You might be search for them or check a tire manufaturer's site.

I think 3020's had 3 1/8 inch axels, the same as 3010, 4010, 4000, 70, 720, 730 and maybe 60, 620, 630 too.

Good luck.
