Brother got a new computor for himself and give me the kids old one. On it you have a password you have to enter on the administer screen to sign on,while on our other one you just click administer. How do I take out the password so I dont have to enter it? Just seems like something I will forget. Thanks for the help

after you login Hit the CTRL and Alt and Delete key at the same time. Should get a screen with a link to change the password. You can just tab through the new password boxes to set it to blank.

(quoted from post at 07:07:17 09/27/11) Have you tried finding a computer discussion forum?

people skills shining thru again..............

Check the manuals- if any. If you write down the password and paste it to side of console you don"t worry about forgetting-just everybody else getting in, but some people at former job did this on shared computer stations.
Newbies forum with Gerrit over on KL can help for other troubles, couple other IT people over there also. RN

I asked my son about recommending a good computer discussion forum- he smiled and said (gently) that with my level of expertise (minimal), I would merely be fodder for the flamers. He said most of the denizens of the computer boards are socially inept "closet cases", who either like to show off their superior knowledge (if they consider the question sophisticated enough to merit their attention), or flame you, if they consider the question "beneath" them.

I suspect the password question fits into the latter (although I certainly wouldn't know how to answer it).

should be able to change or remove password doing this:

start
contorl panel
user accounts

most tech will not do anything to a password, they are afraid the computer is stolen.
The other way is a complete reload of the system, which might not be a bad idea as it will remove any unwanted data and programs.

Better than removing the Administrator password would be to create a couple of [b:654c4848f0]Non[/b:654c4848f0]-Administrator accounts for family members to use and keep the password on the Administrator.

Microsoft made it a pain to add a user and put it in the correct group (do a Google search and find an answer that makes sense to you). You really shouldn't be online as an Administrator; that's how your computer gets infected with malware.
