O/T Air In Water Lines?

Getting air in water lines from well, seems to be worse on the hydrant at barn & the one at the garage, water will stop coming out for a second sometimes, just air, also had air in drain line in basement with pump on. it's a submersible pump with pressure tank in basement, everything new 4 years ago, i suppose when water runs through softner it disperses air & we don't notice it too much in house. also checked pressure in tank with pressure drained off, it's ok. anyone know what this problem might be?
Thanks for your help

Is your check valve very far above your pump?? If it is you may have a small pin hole between the pump and check valve so the pipe fills with air so you then have a lo of air being pushed up and into the pressure tank so it has to go some place.

I had a simular issue after installin a new oump and tank. If the tank has a bladder to maintain pressure, and there are to air inlets at 2 ft and 4 ft from pitadapter, you will get a lot of air thru your lines. The air inlets allow air to enter the line that will be the head air pressure when the pump starts again. The tank with a bladder uses a prechargedbladder to do the same thing. You can see how this would lead to a problem, if you have both. If your tank is in the basement, as opposed to buried, it probably has a bladder. If you start pulling the pump, you will see the air inlet about 2ft down from the pitadapter, with a second about 4ft down. They will look like two black plugs on the side of the line. You say your pressure drops below the low pressure setting?

You don't have some "gas" in your water, do you?

A neighbor actually installed a BIG pressure tank from which he could bleed off gas to keep it out of the system. It would actually burn vigorously when lit.

We get air in the water lines when the water level gets very low.Make sure your pump is set deep enough in the well.A 6 inch well casing has little reserve.Id guess a gallon per foot.Very easy to over pump a drilled well.My sons drilled well overflows full time.My dug well gets very low in dry times. You can see a few trickles of water coming in at low water levels.I suspect you are over pumping your well.Friend had the same trouble went he bought the place near me.He set the pump 10 feet lower, problem went away.Time to have a well man check it out.

You may have a bad Volume Control Valve in you pressure tank. This valve let excess air from the pressure tank. The excess air comes from the first joint of pipe in the well because there is a drain at the bottom of the first joint to drain the water from this joint.
My Father-in-Law well was like this. We did not know what the problem was so it was lived with. Finally the pump went out. When my Father-in-Laws Grand Nephew, He and His Father ran a water well company, came to replace the pump. I mentioned that I hoped the new pump would correct this problem. He told me it was not the pump but the Volume Control Valve that is in the side of the tank. When the new pump and Volume Control Valve was in place, NO MORE AIR BLOWING OUT OF THE FAUCETS.

Hi Guys,I live here in New Mexico, And all the wells for 15 miles around here all produce air. We have 3 well drillers here that have drilled since the 50's and The wells all are at about 250 ft. and they ALL produce air.So my idea is they all can't be an installation problem! Even the drillers have no idea why they produce air! It drives me nuts having to bleed off the air at the slop tubs at least once a week...I wish I knew how to fix this!! Jim in N M

It has a new (4 yrs old) tank with a bladder, all new pipe & submersible pump then also, has worked fine until last couple of months, has always been plenty of water in well it's down 110 ft. last jet pump was only down 65 ft. was enough water. Thanks for the help so far.
