Old tractors and Bluegrass music

My wife was invited to play her fiddle at a tractor show nearby here this evening. This was the first time this group had played together but they're all pretty good. Farmalls outnumbered the Deeres at the show...

Now that is some nice playin !

I have had a couple fiddles and never could play any of them, but I like the sound that can be gotten out of one.

Watched a show called "Larrys Country Diner"
I have to relate to what Nadine said, " Im gittin so old the bank sends me the yearly calendar a month at a time" so I never will sound that good .

It's a little show near Warfordsburg, PA in Fulton County. We call it the "Southern States" show, I forget the official name.

That sure sounded good. My 14YO daughter has been playing for 3 or 4 years. She is no where near as good but she is getting there. Hearing your wife gives me hope that the funds are not wasted. lol Thanks for the video.

GREAT JOB, youre wife plays a meannnnnnnn fiddle Tom.

As an old retired fart who attends BOTH antique tractor shows AND bluegrass festivals alllllllll the time I can tell ya the two mix well. Old tractor folk and bluegrassers are for the most part traditional Christian Conservatives MY KINDA PEOPLE.

Okay, Ragtime Annie is a traditional fiddle tune and when its played if you notice EVERYONE is smiling and toe tapping, it brings joy to the heart. You can tell if a rookie is at a jam if he calls out Ragtime Annie in a Key other then D !! Ive heard it played in A (fiddldrs like D and A) but its usually in D, its just a D song they say around here at least.

Similar, though some play it in G, the guitar classic Wildwood Flower is just a C song in my opinion.

Next, heres a few other fiddle classics I bet she can play:

Old Joe Clark
Soldiers Joy
Cotton Eyed Joe
Ashokan Farewell
Angeline the Baker (aka Angelina baker)
Turkey in the Straw

Finally, those Old Time Fiddler Conventions are a great place to hear junior fiddlers n pickers, below is a young fiddler Peyton Okelley and young flat guitar picker Danielle Yother, look for them all over You Tube GREAT

Ol John T Only a banjo picker Wannabee grrrrrrrr

Very talented- but Danielle needs to "sell" the deal a little better, IMHO- her facial expression while playing is like she's having a root canal. . .

They tease her about playing like a violinist rather than a fiddler, but it works good for the slow songs like Ashokan Farewell. That's the only other one on your list they played last night (sorry about the video quality, it's was starting to get dark...):

Mornin counsellor,

Sooooooooo right, if you look at one of her other on stage videos (Galax Virginia Old Time Fiddlers junior youth guitar) you hear her mother yelling out SMILE and we love you. Hey shes only like 11 or 12 but I agree and think that stage presence and smile will come in time.

Shes only like 10 or 11 here I think

Wow, some great talent in that group. Allen's comment reminded me of a question my son asked me about the group I play in. We have two lady fiddlers, neither is my wife. My son asked "Does mom known you're fiddlin around with two other ladies?" I said "yes"!

By the way, isn't digital great? We can all play along with these videos if the music was recorded in standard pitch.

I an not musically inclined at all!
However, I enjoy as lot of different kinds of music.
I remember when The Civil War series aired on PBS and I first heard The Ashokan Farewell.
I had to go right out and buy the tape.
You are blessed to have such a talented wife!
Really enjoyed these!
Thank you!
